Most chevys require to remove the driveshaft from the truck and make sure the truck won't roll as the drive shaft holds the truck in park with the shaft out this won't happen. once the shaft is out the U-Jounts are heald in with plastic that has to be heated with a torch to get the plastic to melt out. once the plastic is melted out the u-Joint can be pressed out with a press or a ball joint press that can be rented at an auto prts stroe the other answer is to take the shaft to a machine shop and have them do the pressing and give you back the repaired shatf.

How to remove upper ball joint on driver side of an 1994 GMC Sonoma

The OEM ball joint is riveted into the upper control arm. There are two possible ways to replace the joint. You can purchase the entire upper control arm/ball joint assembly, which comes complete with the upper control arm bushings. This part costs about $150.00. You will also have to deal with the coil spring when replacing it this way. You can also buy just the ball joint for about $30.00. This will require that you drill out the rivets of the original ball joint and then bolt in the replacement with the bolts that are provided with it. The 2WD and 4WD versions are the same. See this link.

99 gmc sonoma why would the countershaft make noise after installing new timing gears? Has a 4.3

Gm had customer complaints due to the noise They would rattle pretty good right around 2000 rpm, the fix was to the replace the balance shaft gears at the same time endless the rattle noise didn't bother you.

How do you replace the rear u joint on a 99' gmc sonoma 2 wheel drive

Mark the driveshaft and yoke in a manner that will allow you to reassemble it in the same orientation that it's in now. This is done to avoid driveline vibrations. Next remove the 4 7/16" head bolts on the driveshaft yoke. Use a lone screw driver or pry bar to pop the driveshaft off the yoke and slide the other end out of the transmission. Using a u-joint tool press out the old u-joint and press in the new one. You could bring this to a machine shop or a mechanic and have them do it for you if you don't have the correct tools. I think autozone may rent a ball joint press out for free. Next reassemble it orientated the same way you took it off.

I have a 2000 gmc sonoma and while driving down

Probably the CV joint. When you put it in 4x4 that puts extra torque on it so it wont vibrate so much.

98 gmc sonoma w 2 pc drive shaft 2wd noise from rear u joint and vibration at 40mph and up. have replaced u joints and carrier bearing. rear ball and socket were dry and rusty.

remove the rear shaft from a 1990 full size gmc van (g-van) make sure the one you select has the scew on sleeve at the front of the rear section of the shaft
this will be the right lenght
take the rear yolk off your old shaft cut of the ball socket now get the same u-joint your truck calls for and mount the rear yolk (the section of the shaft that bolts to your rear end) to the new shaft
this works ive done it
you eliminate 2 of the 4 u-joints and lighten up your shaft this releives strain on you tranny and rear end when these u-joints and ball bearings fail they cause the vibrations which ruin the rest of your drive train also you gain 10hp
i spent 300 bucks rebuilding the OEM shaft and got no where so for 25 bucks i did this

Universal joint needs to be replaced

If you have never done one it isn't real easy. You might want to remove your driveshaft and take it to a shop or a machine shop. If you remove the shaft they won't charge you much to install the joint. I can tell you how to change it with a vice, hammer and some kind of torch if you want to do it yourself.
