Question about 1996 Jaguar Xj Series

1 Answer

I have a Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible 1993 2+2. The Electric Hood wont go down using the Roof switch in the car. I have manually put it down using the Manual override switch on top of the battery in the boot/trunk. The quarter windows do go up and down using the switch. Any ideas?

Hi, do you know where they are located in my car?

There is a 30a fuse beside the hydralulic pump on top of the battery. Its ok if this is the one?

Likewise where do I find the relay for it?

Hi. The fuse and relay were fine. As I mentioned I manually put the hood down. About 10 mins later I tried the electric switch and it worked, up and down. I suspect it was a hydraulic fluid block which freed wehn I manually pumped it through? Anyway thanks for your help. R

Recently bought XJS V12 with 15K miles; driven only 1K miles since 1993. I drove the car 250 miles the day I bought it with no problems. Since then, it idles well for 30-60 seconds but then stalls.

Check the fuel filter(s). Your long drive may have shaken dirt or old fuel gunk ("varnish") loose and plugged the filter most of the way. Enough fuel gets by to start the engine, but then it starves when you put it under load.

Jaguar xjs 1995 v12 engine lack of power

I would start with a tune up, then isolate any symptoms other than lack of power if it persists, like rough idle, sputtering, jerking, engine trouble codes, etc.

Convertible top will not retrack

Hi Stan

First of all the roof is not even soppose to operate while the trunk is open - So there is the first problem Ive been involved with BMW's for a long time and this is the first Ive heard of a roof opening while the trunk is open. There is a built in feature that tells the car not to open the roof if the trunk is open and the other way roung while the roog lid is open the trunk cant open.

The reason the roof is not working anymore as soon as there is stress on the roof the electric motors(One operates the roof and the other operates the roof lid)  disengages, You said that the roof still worked but the lid did not so probably only the one motor disengaged. So what you have to do is open the trunk on the left hand side right behind the tail light pull away the material and simply just push the electric motor into place. that should fix your problem.

It may happen that the two motors have become out of sync, Disengage both electric motors manualy put the roof away engage the motors and that should put the roof and lid back into sync.

Electric rear quaterlight window does not return when the convertible roof of the car is closed

On my 1990-XJS, one of the quarter windows did not come up: with the help of the "Electrical Guide", Fig. 29-1/-2 I was able to fix it. In your case, if only one of the 2 windows does not go down, then it can't be the fuse but most likely the culprit is the "down" relay for each of the 2 quarter windows, located under the luggage compartment floor at the driver's side (there are six "Change-over relays" all together). It is unlikely that the ECM is involved because again, it would affect both windows.Yes, like anything else on a Jaguar, it involves some WORK. To help you further, I'd need more details.
I have been able to maintain two similar Jaguars for 12 years with good results, and might be able to help you further.,
