SOURCE: 3 speed shifter conversion

I have the same problem on a 65 c10 3 speed. Nothing is wrong with the mechanism, use the brackets from the kit and/or bend the original ones (they are relatively heavy gauge and will have to put them in a vise to do so). Get the rods to switch sides without colliding with each other.

The alternative i originally thought was to turn the entire shifter mechanism around, but that failed

Alternatively just leave it alone, and be the only one who knows how to drive the truck

SOURCE: saturn shifter linkage

An easy fix would be to go tothe Junk Yard and pull off the parts you need order to do this though I would advise getting a Haynes Manual (VERY VERY HELPFUL BOOK) for your car...Available at your local Auto parts Store (even if you dont do it yourself you should still get the can save you a lot of time and money when it comes to knowing and working on your vehicle)

SOURCE: shifter knob removal

the shift knob is glued and pressed on, the best way to remove it intact is to heat the knob with a heat gun and pull straight up with a lot of force, please be very careful because when the knob finally releases there is very good chance that you can hit yourself in the face, if the knob is not to be used again you cut a **** up the side with a dremal tool,

SOURCE: My 87 VW Jetta is stuck in second gear and shifter

Front wheel drive cars with transaxles use a shifter cable that runs from the shifter to the transaxle. Have a look under the hood and see if the cable broke loose from the linkages, or from the shifter itself.
Best thing to do in this situation is to have a mechanic look at it. There's really nothing that anyone here can fix without having a look at the car and troubleshooting it.

chk the linkage under the truck for any foriegn objects. block the tires and have a friend put light pressure on the shifter while you lightly tap the linkage.

5th gear synchronizer shifter

sound to me like a basic sloppy shifter, did you inspect the shifter and all parts associated?
usually the synco dont stop shifts, only causes grinding
unless, it is shattered. (rare that)
it only matches speeds, so if cracked in half , you can shift by
double shifting , like racers and truckers did for years, "crash boxes"

My 93 ford ranger is stuck in 2nd gear, but the shifter just flops around. What could this be?

There is a roll pin on the shifter stick under the boot if its a manual and if its automatic its a broken shift cable. Which do you have?

Gear shift feels like a pin fell out. Seems to be flopping around. Won't engage in any gear.

Look at the tube the shifter goes into, is there a pin in a hole there? If not find it and reinstall the pin that retains the shift arm to the steering column barrel.

5 speed Manual Trans is difficult to get into reverse. Once in gear its fine. Seems like the shifter is not lining up.

your shifter may be going bad. you have to push down on the shifter handle to shift it into the reverse gear. unfortunatly things are'nt made like they used to be. the bottom part of you shifter is made partly of plastic. it has 4 plastic balls that rotate around a metal cage that hold those plastic balls into place. you can try this, where the plastic cover on shifter handle is[at the top of plastic cover] use wd40 lubricant with the long red straw inserted into the can. spray the wd40 down inside the cover while rotating shifter handle. not putting it into gear, just rotating it around. just spray a small amount of it. you don't want to drown it,just lube it a little. this will buy you some time to prepare for a replacement. hope this helps and thank you for choosing

Mannual Box, 1990 V6 4runner

you have a linkage problem its either where the shifter is in the floor there is a ball there that wears out and causes this. or its loose at the transmission just pop the hood and visually inspect the transmission and the shifter linkages see if any are not connected. if its connected and tight on the trans then you know you need a new shifter in the car. they are not hard to replace.
