NO. the reset button will trip if the car is in a collision, or hard bump or even if you slam the door too hard. its located in the trunk above the right rear wheel area. If you ran out of gas, the pump may have gone bad???

Location of fuel pump on 1999 ford escort

It's in the gas tank. Just make sure the fuel pump is the problem and not something else. Check for applicable trouble codes. There are some codes for the fuel pump driver module.
There is also an inertia switch, something to check.

1996 ford escort died when i was driving right after i went over a small pot hole and will not start. It was low on gas..could iy be the fuel filter

Ford vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump cut off switch that will shut power to the fuel pump in the event of a collision. By hitting the pothole, there was probably enough "force" making the switch mistakenly shut off the fuel pump. The switch should be located in the trunk either on the left or right side. Locate the switch and press the reset button. If it clicks when pressed, then the switch was activated. Try starting the car. If it starts, then that was the problem. I own a 1997 Ford Escort and the same thing happened to me...the pothole caused enough "force" thereby the switch took it as an impact. I hope this helps you out.

My 1994 Ford Escort won't start and it keeps showing a light that says, "Fuel Cut Out," I don't know what this means so I can't fix my problem. Can you help?

in the event of an accident, there is a safety cut-off switch the stops the fuel pump. there is a reset button normally located in the rear of the car and is marked "fuel cut-off reset switch". it's possible this switch tripped.

2002 Escort wont start after crash. No logical reason. Is there resets or sensors?

There is a fuel shut-off switch that stops the flow of fuel in an accident to prevent the occupants from becoming crispy critters. I believe it is in the trunk on Fords. Just push the button in to allow fuel to get to the engine. I'll check to see if I can find the exact location. Back in a few minutes.

No gas or spark

Try your inertia switch in the cargo area in back. Its located on the passenger side rear wheel well. Push the button.

Fuel problem

Sounds more like tuning problem. Clean or replace plugs, gapping them to specs and see how that works for you.

My fuel cutoff switch was going off two days ago and i could not get the car started.i let it sit for two days and went to go start and i was getting a strong gas odor from inside of the car it wasnt even...

if you have tried starting it for a while , this can give off a petrol smell because if the engine isnt firing then the bores are getting floaded , the fuel cut off switch should only switch off for a reason ,, EG head on bump , part from that the switch could be faulty. but when the car runs after a short while and still stinks of fuel i would advise to get it checked out asap .. matdav69

The fuel cutoff switch appears to be jammed or not able to manual

It is not tripped if the red button is pushed down. The switch might just be defective. How many wires are going to the switch? And what colors are they?
