My 91 dodge Dakota shuts off on me in the middle of traffic. I can hear a puttering sound before it shuts off. Could that be my alternator?

Highly unlikely.
If you are accelerating or moving at high speed when it "shuts off," it is more likely a fuel delivery problem, or perhaps a heat-related ignition issue.
Do a readout of stored codes with an ODB-II reader, and proceed diagnostic from there. Primary culprit: MAGNETIC PICKUP COIL in distributor (they fail when hot).

Problem about acceleration puttering

I'd try some new fuel injectors, cheap and easy to replace. Or even some injector cleaner wouldn't hurt

After coasting down a grade, my 2008 Equinox stutters when I accelerate to continue up the other side. A diagnostic check revelead nothing although the "engine performance light" came on, there...

Assuming that you feel and hear the engine smoothly accelerating while the stutter occurs, you are probably looking at transmission. Torque converter? possibly. A full diagnostic of the transmission is certainly in order as there are a number of things that might cause that condition.

Speeds of 60 or above my car feels wobbly.sometimes my throttle cable (?) gets stuck so my car will be at a stop but the engine is still accelerating and lately it's sounds kind of like it puttering w

normally your engine should not cause your car to wobble, however a misfire can cause this to happen, as far as your throttle cable, you need to replace it and check the transmission kick down cable (co located with throttle cable) replace if necessary. The jerking when shifting is probably due to incorrectly adjusted kick down cable, when adjusted correctly the transmission with shift smooth. Hope this helps, let me know
