I have a 2003 Monte Carlo SS Pace Car (#351) with the same issue. I was told by my dealer that Chevrolet issued an advisory (just short of a recall) on the front brake calipers. If you are getting more than 3/16" wear difference between the inner and the outer brake pad on the same caliper, it is because the brake caliper piston is sticking in the extended position. The remedy in the advisory is to lubricate the brake caliper with silicone grease and replace the seal. However, It was recommended by my dealer to replace the calipers with an "Aftermarket" set. My impression of the dealers recommendation (though they would not admit) was that AC/Delco calipers are still having problems even after the advisory solution is performed. Being cautious, I lubed up the calipers myself and replaced the seals at about 70K miles to see if the advisory solution would do the trick. That was about 15K ago and I'm hearing those tell-tale grinding sounds again. I was looking for a set of "Aftermarket" calipers when I found this blog. I hope this helps.

I wouldn't think you'd need them again that soon. Unless you have some calipers sticking and causing the rotors to get hot and warp. Do you have a shimmy when applying the brakes at higher speeds?

How do you know when you need a new timing belt for a 1986 monte carlo

I dont belive this 1986 monte carlo has a timing belt, this car uses the timing chain, the timing chain is good for 150,000 miles, the to check it for wear would be to remove the distributor cap turn crank with a wrench to right mark rotor then slowly turn crank to the left and watch how far the crank turns before the rotor moves, this is how to check the slack on the chain if the crank moves more than 10 degrees then replace the chain, these cars can go 150.000 miles before the chain is needed, and some go more. hope this helps.

Replaced a 03 monte outside temp guage sensor only reads -40 now

If there is nothing else wrong with the system you just need to drive it over 25mph for more than 2 minutes. If you slow down below 25mph then you will have to start over. I would recomend getting on the freeway. Don't go over 60mph though, that will make it reset also. If it still says -40 after you are sure you have met the time and speed criteria. Then there is still a problem in the system. Make sure the connector at the temp sensor is clean and the terminals are good.
