Where is the thermostat located on a 3.0 liter engine? Don't know if the water, pump or thermostat is leaking.

Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine where the hose stops. Under the housing where the hose is attached to the engine is the thermostat.

Follow the top radiator hose back to the engine. There is where the t-stat housing is.

If the thermostat is broken in the closed position the engine would overheat rapidly. If it was broken in the open position the engine cooling system would not reach normal operating temperature and the heater would produce only warm air.

Take the thermostat out and put it in a pan of water on the stove. When the water gets to around 200 deg F, the thermostat should open. If it doesn't it needs replaced. Observe carefully that you have not installed the thermostat upsidedown. Spring-side to the engine

SOURCE: 2002 chryler sebring is leaking anti freeze

It depends on where the leak is coming from. If the water pump is leaking, it has a hole on the bottom of it. You will see a trail of dried anti freeze coming from the bottom of it, indicating a bad water pump. It's best to dry everything off, crank it up and let it come to operating temp and check for where the leak is coming from. It may just be an old hose or loose clamp.

Freeze plug location front of chevy 5.3 liter engine diag


Hello Richard,

There doesn't appear to be a freeze plug on the front of the block.
They are always located on the lower sides of the block.

If you can see water on the front of the engine do a visual inspection when the motor is off and cold.

Take a rag and dry off any noticeable moisture. Start the engine and let it warm up, carefully check all the areas listed below to see if you can isolate the leak.

The radiator could be leaking and dispersing coolant towards the motor while driving the car. A hose or fitting could be leaking. The intake manifold or thermostat gasket could be leaking. The water pump could be leaking at higher RPM's.

There's got to be something up or wrong with the pump-that's the sole source of circulation for the entire cooling system. Did you pull it off to check it? Sometimes the impeller can shear off. Or did the blades show any signs of wear? Check the belt running it too for any problem.

My 2004 chrysler sebring overheats really bad, i can barely drive 3 miles before it reaches 3/4. I replaced the thermostat and both of the fans kick on.


you would only have water in the oil if there was a a leak in the head gasket or water jacket ports in the engine. if you are losing water,that quickly,then it's either a hose,radiator, or water pump. put a piece of cardboard under veh after youve filled the radiator and veh is cool, that way you can determine the location of leak. if you don't see the location of leak the next day, then odds are it is the water pump and only loses water after engine warms up an pressure forces it out the weep hole in the pump while driving. (note: if you have white smoke coming out of tailpipe then you probably have a blowed head gasket,)

Need to know where the thermostadt is at. Have leakage but can't find any hoses etc leaking.


If you have the V6 (2.5L) engine, be advised: it's a wearing task. Just getting to the radiator drain plug can be a problem without a 3/8 inch drive ratchet, a 3 inch extension, a universal joint. and a 19 mm socket. The drain plug is on the passenger side of the radiator on the engine side. The 19mm socket will fit over the drain plug to turn it open.
The coolant plumbing on this engine is the craziest I have ever seen. The thermostat is on the rear face of the engine (where the radiator hoses connect), but not on the upper hose where it connects to the upright pipe with the radiator cap on it, it is on the lower hose connection. Pull that hose off the housing, and remove the three bolts holding the thermostat housing to the engine. It will help if you first remove the big air inlet hose from the air filter housing to the throttle body. I wouldn't even bother with the thermostat till you have found the leak. Is any coolant leaking from the front of the engine, dripping off the bottom behind the crank pulley? That would be a water pump problem or SEAL, an o-ring on the back of the water pump. Now get on the driver's side and look around on the rear of engine nearest the firewall where engine and transaxle mate. Look down there for signs of coolant coming from rear of engine and running down onto the transaxle case. There is a metal pipe laying in the valley below the lower intake manifold, connecting the water pump at the front and the rear housing where the radiator hoses and heater hoses connect. This metal pipe uses an o-ring for a seal into the water pump, and the same size o-ring to connect to the rear housing. If one of those o-rings is leaking, you have a big problem getting to it.. I took the rear housing off once (never again!), Now I'm taking the water pump off to fix a leak. The water pump is run by the timing belt, so the front of engine needs to be stripped down, and the timing belt removed to take off the water pump. That metal pipe is held in place by a bracket with one bolt on the rear of engine; it may require taking the lower intake off (again) to get to both of those pesky o-rings. I hope you don't have the same problem, and if you have the 4 cylinder engine, the thermostat is a snap to replace, plus you don't have that crazy plumbing problem.

I need the locations of thermostats


Not quite sure when you say thermostat"s". or what size engine you have but what I went on and did was give you the location of the cooling system thermostat for the most common engine for a Trailblazer for your year (4.2 liter). If this is the one, just letting you know that that thermostat comes as a complete unit water outlet and thermostat together. they don't sell it separate. Hope this is what you were looking for and I hope this helps.

It Depends on which engine you have, this is how it goes for both. I use a little RTV with a new ring as well.

THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT (4.2L ENGINE)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the necessary coolant from the radiator.
2. Remove the generator.
3. Loosen the outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing. Remove the outlet hose from the thermostat housing.
4. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
5. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine block.
6. Clean all of the surfaces of the thermostat housing.
7. Clean the sealing surface of the engine block.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the thermostat housing to the engine block.
2. Install the thermostat housing bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
3. Lubricate the inner diameter of the radiator hose with engine coolant.
4. Install the outlet hose to the thermostat housing. Secure the hose with the clamp.
5. Install the generator.
6. Fill the cooling system with specified coolant and concentration. Follow the correct cooling systen bleed procedure for your engine.
7. Inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks after starting the engine.
THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT (5.3L ENGINE)
1. Drain Radiator and remove the radiator outlet hose.
2. Remove the water pump inlet bolts.
3. Remove the water pump inlet and thermostat from the water pump.
Installation Procedure
IMPORTANT: The thermostat is not serviceable separately. The water pump inlet and thermostat must be replaced as an assembly.
1. Install the thermostat and thermostat housing to the water pump.
2. Install the thermostat housing bolts.15 N.m
3. Install the radiator outlet hose.
4. Fill the cooling system with specified coolant and concentration. Follow the correct cooling systen bleed procedure for your engine.
5. Inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks after starting the engine.

sounds like your water pump gasket has a hairline crack in it and as engine warms it expands and leaks more

My dodge ram 1500 is overheating and burning the coolant. I already changed my radiator and the thermostat, and it's not leaking but I can smell like burnt coolant, I have to be putting more cooling every...


I would defiantly check the water pump, can you feel pressure in the rad lines? when you changed the rad and thermostat out, did you run your vehicle without the rad cap for awhile to ensure that there was no air locks within the system?
Water pump is located at the front of the engine behind the fan.

Overheating


the upper hose is suppose to be hot this lets you know that the thermostat is working like it should. if it were cold that would indicate that the thermostat was bad. i would say that it's the water pump because your not getting the circulation if it were a blockage your upper hose would still be cool as well.. hope this helps please rate...thanks
