Labor rates from region to region vary so I can't tell you that. If it's a minor leak often a good product like lucas can stop or slow it down by softening the seal. (results are not instant...it takes time) If the leak is large, then you definitely need to have someone do the job. Each shop will give you a price quote before doing that work. Then it's your choice as to who will do it.

Rear seal leaking on 2007 ford escape

In order to replace the rear main seal you will need some auto repair tools and experience . this is a big job , the transmission must be removed to replace this seal, also make sure that the seal is the leak,

oil always flows down, a leak on the top of the engine will flow down and drip at the center rear and look like a rear main seal , make sure that is the leak!!.

Depending on what engine you have and if it has 4 wheel drive the time for a shop to do is from 7 to 10 hours depending on engine size and 4wd,

Oil leaking from toyota camry 1992, 1994 model

You don't say what engine it has. The 4-cyl was a better than the V6 for oil leaks.

The V6 had oil leaks from

-rear bank cam cover gasket

-distributor o-ring seal

-oil filter bracket o-ring seal

-crankshaft nose oil seal (less common)

-rear main bearing oil seal (expensive, just leave it)

The 4 cyl leaked oil from

-distributor o-ring seal

-camshaft cover gasket

-rear main bearing seal (expensive, leave it)

Rear main seal is leaking alot need to know how to repair

Well to start with is it a Auto matic or a Manual.
If its a rear main seal then it the one behind the flywheel or converter which cannot just leak on its own as there must be a reason for it such as rear main bearing worn alowing the crankshaft to move up and down more than the correct amount of movement if .0002"alowing the seal to wear and the oil pressure to pump out.
OR the engine has done a lot of milage and the seal has worn a grove in the crankshaft and worn the sharp lip away ,OR the seal has started to spin and come out as far as it can.
So check behind the engine with a mirror and light in case its a head or rocker cover leaking ,,other wise its engine out job if its crankshaft ...
So let me know how you get on . Ron

Rear main seal leaks..does this affect transmission??

A leaking rear main seal will not cause your transmission to leak.

The transmission has its own seal and should not leak because of the engine rear main seal.

Due to the labor involved in replacing the rear main seal on the engine, it is best if you replace the front transmission seal at the same time if possible.

Installation varies on different vehicles but the principles are the same.

Have you replaced the rear main seal? What bout the housing that holds the seal, it'a an alu casing and it might hava a crack? The crankshat rear part where the seal goes could have a deep groove as well.

How toreplace rear main seal in 92 F150 4.9 inline 6

One thing you may want to try especially if you don't have a heated garage is a bottle of Bar's leak rear main sealer. I had a leak big enough to cause my clutch to slip and it worked for me. I figure in the spring I'll replace the seal, maybe.
