How to replace crankshaft sensor on 2001 sonata V6

  • Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable to prevent accidental shorts that could damage the electronic control module.

  • Find the crankshaft position sensor. It may be on the front of the engine, on the side or in the rear. A shop manual should be able to tell you where it is for your car's year, make and model.

  • Disconnect the 3 wires that lead to the crankshaft sensor. One of these is the current feed, and the other 2 are the ground wire and the sensor's output. Keep track of which is which--They will connect to the corresponding places on the replacement sensor.

  • Remove the crankshaft position sensor. If it is mounted on the front of the engine, the sensor will typically be fitted into a bracket hole and will be secured with a small bolt, which must be removed.

  • Install the replacement sensor and connect the three wires. Most sensors lock into position and do not require adjustment. If the sensor is on the side of the engine, you will likely need to install a new rubber O-ring. Do not reinstall the O-ring that came off when the old sensor was removed. For the handful of crankshaft position sensors that need adjustment, you can often use a paper spacer placed on the end of the sensor. When finished, reconnect the battery.

I can't find the location of the crankshaft postion sensor in my 2000 Hyundai sonata

My online Sonata manual shows these possibilities, but does not identify which applies specifically to 2000 Sonata.
Also, when you talk to the dealership parts counter, you'll need to know whether your 2000 Sonata is (a) 4-cylinder 2.4L MFI DOHC engine, or (b) 6-cylinder 2.5L MFI DOHC engine.
Its easy to tell - just count your spark plug wires.

The crankshaft position sensor is located next to the flywheel.
The crankshaft position sensor is located next to the flywheel/torque converter.
The camshaft position sensor is located on the engine near the timing belt cover and under the upper radiator hose.
The crankshaft position sensor is located on the driver-s side of the vehicle, down by the lower radiator hose.
The crankshaft position sensor is located on the engine near the crankshaft pulley.
The crankshaft position sensor is located at the front of the engine near the timing belt.

Where is the crankshaft sensor located on 1999 v6 hyundai sonata?

The CPS for these motors is located in the front of the engine and the the timing belt cover needs to be removed to gain access. If you need further instructions on removal as well as diagrams, email me at iambanshee74@yahoo.com and I will send those immediately.

Where is the crankshaft sensor located ?

The crankshaft position sensor (POS) is located on the oil pan facing the gear teeth (cogs) of the signal plate. It detects the fluctuation of the engine revolution.
After replacement, ECM reprogramming is required.
This vehicle may be subject to voluntary recall, CAMPAIGN I.D. # R0606, that involves the crankshaft position sensor:

Quote: Nissan has determined that on some 2003 - 2004 Altima and Sentra vehicles with the 2.5 liter engine the operation of the crank angle sensor is significantly affected by variations in temperature that occur due to the unique location of the sensor in the engine. Under certain driving conditions, these variations in temperature can be large enough to cause a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. If the interruption in the signal from the sensor is so brief that the Electronic Control Module (ECM) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at low speed.

2005 Kia Sedona, Trouble Code P0320. Everything I read online tells me its a Crankshaft Sensor. I called Kia and then sent me to www.kiatechinfo.com were it says that the code is an Ignition System Failure...

This is a common problem usually related to the crankshaft position sensor. Before you replace it, disconnect the electrical connector to the CPS sensor and clean it with electrical contact spray and add a dab of dielectrical grease. If the problem continues, replace the CPS sensor. It is easy to replace and is not very expensive. It just bolts to the engine block with one or two bolts. I believe the CPS sensor on the Sedona is behind the timing cover on the front of the engine.

1988 isuzu trooper, 2.6L, 4 cyl. I need to know how to test the CAS. I do believe mine is sick. Also, found about 2TBLspoons of engine oil when I took the dist. cap off. I'd like to know why. Thanks

The crank angle sensor has no individual testing procedure. Diagnosis is by verification of repair by replacing with known good component.

Check to see what the Diagnostic Trouble Codes from the ECM are. There are only one or two that directly relate to the CAS.

There is a small seal for the shaft of the CAS, where the drive gear passes through the body to drive the wheel. If this seal has failed, and at this age, it is possible, then the incoming oil has likely fouled the CAS, and is why the CAS won't work.

Unfortunately, there is no seal replacement. The only way to repair the CAS is to replace it.

1995 hyundai sonata turns over but will not start

sounds like a crank position sensor. Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDI/II (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there.
