If the battery is OK, but the starter still won't crank, there could be a number of possible reasons. Here are some of them:
- The ignition switch could be at fault - it's a common problem.
- The starter motor itself is common to fail.
- Starter motor control wire could have bad connection.
- Cars with an automatic transmission have a Neutral Safety Switch that allows the starter to be operated only when the transmission is in "Park" or "Neutral" position. When this switch isn't functioning properly, or for example, when the shifter is not fully engaged in "Park" or "Neutral" position, the starter also won't crank.
- Similarly, cars with manual transmission have a switch installed at the clutch pedal that only allow the car to be started when the clutch pedal is depressed. The problem with this clutch pedal switch could also prevent the starter from operating
- A problem with vehicle's security system or some other electronic control module (e.g, PCM, BCM) may also prevent the starter from operating.

also check for a bad ground between battery and vehicle. check wires from battery to ground.

1992 F350-7.3 4wheel drive is hard to start after changing fuel filter and fuel pump. Why is it hard to start?

indicates fuel leak back and fuel pressure drop
check filter installation for seal not sitting properly, loose fuel line fitting , pump installed correctly (flow wise ), filter installed correctly (flow wise)
air getting in to fuel lines
the thing you are looking for is indicated by the initial hard start but when started runs ok ( good fuel to the engine eventually) and then by the fact that if the engine is allowed to sit for a long period the problem returns meaning that the fuel pressure is not being held
could even be a problem fuel pressure regulator allowing the fuel to bypass ( no pressure =hard starting) then gets enough pressure to run ok but allows that pressure to drain off over time

Car won't start

If it just clicks then either you have a poor battery cable connection between the battery to the starter clean battery posts and there is a good connection. After you know your connection are good then it has to be the starter solenoid that is bad.

Look for a light that says SECURITY or ANTITHEFT on the dash. This light could cause this problem. Explained on this link.

My 92 volvo 240 has been sitting outside all summer. i have started it a few times and went to start it today. it won't do anything. what could be the problem and a solution?

"It won't do anything" means that there are no dash lights, no buzzers, nothing?
Any car has very slight electrical drains when it is shut off. For one thing, the clock is running, but there are a number of other tiny loads as well. With a good battery, you should be able to park a car for six months to a year and still start it.
However, if you start the car several times without running it long enough to recharge the battery, or if the drain is larger than it should be due to electrical problems or aftermarket accessories, you can get a failure to start.
Unfortunately, maintanence-free batteries don't tolerate being run completely dead very well, and many owners have unhappily found that draining an older battery once or twice was the last straw that ended their battery's life.
I suggest that you borrow a charger or a set of jumper cables to start the car, and drive it 30 minutes or so to fully charge the battery. If you have more problems, get the battery load tested at a shop that sells batteries to see if it is still OK.

SL1 wont start sometimes

Sounds stupid, but could be bad battery conection. The car gets enough amperage to run the acceseries but not enough amperage to start the car. Clean and tighten the terminals. It cost nothing and will eliminate these connections as the cause if the problem persits.

Disconect the battery and ECM for FOUR DAYS then reconect the ECM and BATTERY. Let it sit for another four days without turning anything on. It should start but will run rough for about 200 miles as the ECM relearns the system. I had the same issue and that is what fixed it.

Hi, you will need to remove the passenger side kick panel under the dash then you will be able to see the side of the heater box, you should be able to see a black milti plug with a 2.5mm red and white wire, if you unplug this you will see the casing for the resistor, this just un clips from the heater box and remove, replacement is just the reverse, hope this helps or if you get stuck just ask for more help, mark.
