Question about 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

1 Answer

I have a 94 cutlass supreme and am getting a check engine light and the radiator fans are constantly on. I changed all water temp sensors ( the one to the fans and the one to the computer and the one to the guage) When I hook it up to the scanner the one to the computer reads -37 degrees farienheight even though the guage is pegged at around 200. Car does not overheat I just want to get the light to go out.

The fans being on, is a default mode. So which sensor is giving that reading? Air temp (IAT) or Coolant temp (ECT) ?

1995 oldsmobile cutless supreme gauge go to hot radiator thermostat and water pump chaned

Check that the temp sender wire is not shorting out on the engine as that will make the gauge read hot. Replace the sender unit as they can change resistance over time and read wrong.

Where is the cooling fan switch on 92 cutlass supreme?

It doesn't exactly work that way. The temp sensor on the engine sends a signal to the computer, and the computer grounds the fan relay.
You could use a scanner to watch the temp sensor data, or jumper the fan relay to see if the fans will run.
The fans should also come on when the ac is running.

Take off radiator cap or look in coolant reservoir for air bubbling. If you have this, your head gasket has blown or your head is cracked. Let us know if you have more questions.

Engine overheats, constantly have to keep the air on

had a '94. thermostat, and water pump replacement. first try checking the fuses, run the engine, and see if the cooling fan comes on. If it doesnt its an electrical problem.

94 cutlass supreme is overheating, all fluids are fine. I did have someone tell me i need 3 motor mounts replaced. could this be an issue of the car overheating?

Over heating can be caused by a faulty thermostat and or weak water pump and dirty radiator and old antifreeze or the radiator fan now working when at idle but should not over heat when driving. Service the cooling system if it has never been serviced before. Replace the thermostat, buy some radiator flush to clean out the radiator and heater core. Just follow the instruction and replace the antifreeze and make sure it's a 50/50 mix water/antifreeze. If you not sure how to mix it 50/50 you can buy them 50/50 premixed. Water boils at 100'C so you need antifreeze mixed with it but antifreeze does not have the same heat transfer as water so you cannot run 100% antifreeze cause it does not transfer heat fast enough and you over heat. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, Be glad to help, once you service the cooling system and your still over heating, then we look at the water pump.

Radiator fans won't come on

Hey I had the same problem with my 95 olds cutlass supreme. First i checked that the fans were receiving power by testing the voltage. Then I noticed that they were recieving voltage just not coming on. When the engine temp got pretty high, they finally came on, another words the gauge could be broken or the engine just does not tell the fans to come on until it has reached a high temp. So i started the vechicle, left it in park and gave it gas until the temp guage read very high, it reached like 230 to 250 then the fans came on. Try getting the temp up there and then see if the fans come on an dlet me know at
