Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I just bought a 2004 Grand Cherokee pecial Edition. When I started my vehicle this morning the oil gauge never moved. Soon the "Check Gauges" light came on then the engine light came on. When I had the oil checked it was overful. Would this have caused this problem? The dealer has taken the car in for service and drained off the escess oil and replaced an O2 sensor. He said it had a code of PO139 and that is what caused the check engine light. I'm not sure i believe him.

Hi! You can stop doubting, when the 02 sensors are faulty it gives you the code po139. The oil just happes to be above normal filling but it has nothing to do with the code. Hope this shed some light. Take care!

Would the O2 sensor problem account for the indicator lights and the fact that no pressure showed on the gauge? Although that was temporary and the pressure did register afterwards.

Is the check engine light on too ?
The check gauges light means one of the gauges is below normal. The oil pressure gauge measures oil pressure, not how much oil is in the crankcase.

If the "check engine" light illuminates, it will either blink or remain constant, depending on the problem. Either way, you should have the vehicle checked by a mechanic, although a blinking light or, on some cars, a red light instead of a yellow/orange light indicates a problem that needs immediate attention. In late-model cars, a blinking light usually indicates an engine misfire so severe that unburned fuel is being dumped into the exhaust system, where it can quickly damage the catalytic converter, requiring an expensive repair. If that happens, you should reduce power and have the car or truck looked at as soon as possible. If the light is steady, the problem is not an emergency, but you should schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Today's automotive computers often try to compensate when there's a problem; so you may not notice deterioration in performance, even though your fuel mileage is suffering and your vehicle is emitting unacceptable levels of hydrocarbons and other pollutants. This and other additional details can find it in Check Engine and OBD Fault Codes articles.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

Check gages on jeep grand cherokee

If your "Check Gauges" light is on, the light means pretty much whay it says...CHECK GAUGES! One or more of your gauges is/are reading outside of normal operating range. You could be having an overheating problem (Temperature gauge near or in the red) You could be having a charging system problem (Battery or Amp gauge reading in the "discharge" or "low voltage" area.) You could be nearly out of fuel (Fuel gauge reading near empty) Your oil pressure could be low (OIl Pressure gauge reading very low)....You have to look at your gauges to find out what is going on that is not normal.

2004 jeep grand cherokee will not start, dash light blink , gauges move back and forth. Battery seem to be ok.

It takes very little voltage and amperage to operate dash gauges. You cannot rely on "seems" when it comes to the battery. A good battery should have standing voltage of at least 12v and be able to "snap back" from a fifteen second 200 amp load. Under load, the voltage should not drop lower than 9.5 volts. Have the battery charged and load tested before going anywhere else with this. then make sure connections are clean and tight. After you get it started, if battery was good, check starter draw and charging system operation. If it does not start, check power flow from key through neutral safety switch and starter relay to starter.

I'm receiving a check gauges warning light on my 00 Jeep Grn Cher

This might be a result of an oxygen sensor. If you take the vehicle to a store like autozone, they will attach a diagnostic sensor to your vehicle at no charge, and then reset the unit, and be able to tell you what is going on. This is at no charge, so there is nothing to lose. I hope this helps.

Check gauges light on 06 f150

Is your battery good? if the check gauges light is on it could be , oil pressure, temperature, or voltage. It sounds like a newer vehicle so I would start by trying another battery or jumper cables.
