Question about 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer Ext

2 Answers

The fan pulley is loose in my 2005 Trailblazer.

After driving my 2005 TrailBlazer in high winds, on the highway, something happened to the vehicle. The next morning, I drove the car about a half a mile and noticed it was making a terrible thumping noise when accelerating. It turns out the pulley that holds the fan is loose. I would like to know if it is safe to drive the vehicle 25 miles to the dealer to be fixed. Also, approximately how much money should I expect to pay for this repair?

Thank you.

This is hard to say, not knowing whats wrong, it may be a bad waterpump or bad fan clutch, the fan clutch is the most common problem on these type of trucks, but could be the pump,to drive 25 miles i dont know, tell you what, open the hood with the engine off, grab the fan and try to spin it,if it binds up then its okay to drive, but if you grab it and move it back and fourth and theres alot of play then its a gamble but a would think it would be okay just keep an eye on the temp gauge, if it starts to overheat then shut it down and tow it the rest of the way, hope this helps,

What is ideler pully 2005 trailblazer

If you look at the engine from the front, there is a big belt called a serpentine belt. That belt connects the fan, air conditioner, power steering pump, alternator etc. There is a pulley on it the maintains the tension. The is the idler pulley. They are plastic in most cases and wear out or squeal.

How pull out engine 4.2L in trailblazer?

Look for the drive belt routing diagram on the engine compartment of your Trailblazer.

Rotate the breaker bar clockwise to release the belt tensio

Slip the belt off the alternator pulley.

Release the belt tensioner arm slowly to avoid damage to the mechanism.

Remove the alternator from the vehicle.

Set the alternator in place and attach the battery cable to the alternator using the ratchet and socket if you have the 4.2L engine model.

Fan pulley loose, but four bolts that hold fan on are tight, like something is loose behind pulley on my 2003 chevy trailblazer/vortec 4200

Hi Cro,Seems to me as if you may have a problem with your water pump. If your vehicle is loosing coolant, that will confirm it. With the engine off and the key removed from the ignition open the hood and check for any looseness in the water pump by taking hold of the fan blades and shaking back and forth (If they're plastic be careful not to apply to much force, or you may break them!). If there is play you'll need a replacement pump!Best regards Johngee10
