Take it to a shop and have a trained technician listen to the noise, but that noise is most likely a failing engine rod bearing.

Can I replace the knock sensor on a 1999 ford expedition Myself and if so what is the location

Yes you should be able to do this yourself. The part at autozone is about 42 bucks. The knock sensor is located on the right side of the engine block under the exhuast manifold on the V6. It should also be in the same general area on a V8.
