This car doesnt have a power steering pump, this car uses an electric motor to provied power steering, this motor is located under the dash connected to steering column shaft, when replacing the motor the module must also be replaced, here is a diagram to help you locate the motor,
Wife's 2005 Malibu steering went dead several times recently and I was puzzled whewen I didn't find a fluid pump. Here on FixYa I learned that an electric motor provided power assist. Said electric motor has a fuse in the engine compartment fuse block, #41. Owner's manual calls for a 40A (32Vdc) fuse and I found an 80A that tested to show intermittent resistyance. Replaced it with ther recommended fuse and the steering seems to be working fine.
If this doesn't solve check the control harness that is attached from the steering column housing to the motor.
