My 1995 chrysler new yorker wont start. i turn key and get nothing. battery is charged and starter does not crank.

If the dash lights up, but no crank, it could be the anti-theft system, or the neutral safety switch, among other things.
Have you tried cranking it in neutral ? Do you have power at the starter post ?
Does everything else work when you turn the key on ?

Turns over but won't start

I would start checking fuses for power. It could be a battery cable issue or something in the fuse box. The dash lights would not be powered thru the key switch, but the other stuff would be. Provided the key switch is getting power for accessories.

97 Monte Carlo-no lights/horn/click/radio ANY IDEAS?

Well if its just the starter theres a way to test that. Hit it really hard with a rench of some sort and start it immedietly after, it should turn over. Thees a chance that botg ur battery and starter are gone. The dinging is normal youll hear that especially in older cars. It definetly soubds like ur starter though

My car has power, lights, radio horn all still work, but when i turn it over it just clicks. i also noticed the the dic reads power steering

it takes little power to operate lights, radio, horn as there is very little amperage draw on the battery when these are operated.the starter however takes anywhere from about 140 to 180 amps to turn an engine over.make sure the battery is in good shape by having a starter draw test done on it,you could just have a bad starter relay(solenoid) or a bad starter motor with a bad spot in the starter itself.either of these require replacing the can take a chance and just replace the solenoid but the starter will possibly go bad shortly after.poor battery might cause the dic problem,or you have another problem as well

When you turn key nothing happens, lights, horn, radio works

check the battery conections for tightness then check continuaty to starter motor.. if power is getting to starter , could be starter. however if any of the dash lights go dim when turning key , suspect the battery.

My 2004 Toyota Matrix will not start, when I turn onver the ignisiton key, nothing happens. The light turns on, radio plays, horn ok and battery voltage is 12,6 volts DC

Do you hear a slight click coming from the engine area??? If not your starter selenoid is bad, and needs replacement. If you do hear a click but the engine is having trouble or slow very slow time turning, then it's your battery. If you hear your starter click, but no turn, then its your starter not turning over. If your instrument lights dim out by alot when trying to turn, then it still your battery which is drain. The battery doesn't completly need to be drain in order for your horn, lights to not work, It could be your battery simply drain and doesn't have enough cranking power to roll over the starter. But in this case issue description, It sounds like it is the starter. Could take it out and bring it to autozone and have them test it out.

The Cars engine wont turn over but the lights and all other accessories work. Why would this happen?

Not one engine sound coming from turning the key means the back end of the ignition is failing. I think it is called the ignition switch. It is the cheaper part versus the full ignition and set of keys.

Check for power at the fuses, dont just check the fuses but touch the terminals in the fuse box with a test light or volt meter and see if there is power. I would guess you will find no power at the terminals in which case go back to the starter. There are fusible links that come off the starter and you may have forgotten to hook one up or one may have burnt open. You will probably have to pierce the insulation to check the link on each side of the black in line fuse. If you find one blown REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER FUSIBLE LINK! Dont just hook it up to the starter without one. It is designed to protect the power feed circuit. Also if you do find one blown you gotta ask yourself why? Is there a wire pinched. Good luck!

I just had a new alternator put in, hoses replaced. But now if I go anywhere (short of long distance) when turn off the engine, it won't start again for at least 1/2 hour. I checked the oil and antifreeze,...

Have the starter checked out. A faulty starter will mimic a bad battery or bad alternator in that it will start the car/truck fine when it's cold but when it gets hot, will act like there's no power. The lights horn, radio will work but won't start because the starter is hot and requires more power to function. Best of luck.
