Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 95 mercury sable and a little while back our abs light came on well the finances werent there at the time to have it checked so now i had to change the complete brake system on the drivers rear. There was no pad left whats so ever it was smoking when i got home from work yesterday so i immediately had someone to look at them. I replaced the caliper rotor pads and had part of the brake line changed. I went to work this morning it was fine. Wasnt hot or smelling like it was burnt. I get home from work and it smells like it was burning and when i touched the rotor it melted the skin off my finger. There is fluid in there. So i know its not leaking. Any ideas????

If you completely overhauled the brake system with new brake lines and pads, then the problem would be that air was not completely removed from the brake system. will have to bleed the brake system to remove the air traped in the lines and behind the brake calipers. hope this will help you.

The abs and battery light keep coming on in my 04 mercury sable, as well as my door locks keep unlocking. What is going on?

You have three separate problems with your car at the same time. ABS is antilock brakes. You may have a bad sensor at one of the wheels. Your alternator is not putting out enough power to recharge the battery. You may have a loose wire at a connection point at the switch that controls the power door locks.

Abs light stays on and brakes are locking up on 2002 mercury sable grand marque what do i need to do to fix it?

first you have to find what is causing the brakes to lock up as this can cause the ABS to activate turning on the light. once this is done then you can see if the ABS light is on, if so you will have to have the code pulled from the ABS module to know what to test.

have vehicle scanned for trouble code the code will give area of problem --most likely problem with a sensor or a hub going bad after scanning you can pull the fuse for abs so you have normal braking

2002 mercury sable brake light on replaced pads and checked fluids

With the vehicle off, turn the key to the on position and see if there is an ABS light (usually yellow/amber). If so, the brake light is related to the emergency brake and the rear calipers aren't done correctly. If no ABS light, the brake light is most likely the indicator for the ABS system. a sensor is most likely unplugged, damaged or just knocked out of calibration with the ABS drum.

Your master cylinder (rear) check valve has failed;
(the pressure is not being released when the brake pedal is not pressed and, the brakes stay applied)
replace the whole master cylinder.
As for your ABS clean the ring on the wheel that is "seen" by the sensor clean it too; it looks like and, works like a old phonograph speed ring (the sensor reads the flashes as the wheel turns to assertain the vehicle's speed.)
