SOURCE: Hyundai excel starter motor

hi,Joe---first of all take care using car stands! you can access the starter from the top or the bottom but small hands are an asset,--- disconnect the battery, using a 12mm spanner undo the main lead on the starter solenoid, and pull off the additional wire(push on, pull off) now you will need a socket, extension, and ratchet to undo the two only mounting bolts--do this successfully and out she will come----cheers

SOURCE: replacing a starter on a 1993 volvo 940 turbo. Is

It looks easy for the 940 but I am not sure about the 940 turbo, as maybe some of the turbo parts are in the way. I'm not sure about that, since there is no documentation on the turbo model vs. the 940 standard model. If you can follow the following instructions, then I would give it a whirl.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
  2. Disconnect the leads from the starter motor.
  3. Remove the starter motor retaining bolts.
  4. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle. To install:
  5. Position the starter motor to the flywheel housing.
  6. Apply locking compound to the bolt threads and install the retaining bolts finger-tight.
  7. Tighten the bolts to approximately 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  8. Connect the starter motor leads and the negative battery cable. Fig. 1: Unfasten the nut retaining the starter cables . . . 90952p12.jpg

Signs to look for for time to get timing belt looked at. I have just purchased a second hand Hyundai 1993 excel sprint (maual transmission) but service record doesn't show any replacement being done on...

look at mileage. the replacement of the timing belt needs to be done at 60,000 miles. you risk severe damage if this is not done. these belts costs around $300-400 to do.
