Question about 2000 Chevrolet Impala

Are there any electrical plugs on the trans that would stop my trans from going in first? i had my radiator replaced and the trans will not go in first now. i think something got unplugged but cannot find it.

Need to replace the radiator on my 1999 Ford Contour SE. It's a 2L. Some pages say take from top..others, from the bottom. Can't find any videos to help me out

You need to raise and support the vehicle high enough to remove the radiator from the bottom. Drain the coolant. Disconnect the coolant hoses from the radiator. Disconnect and remove the fan shroud assembly. You can leave the wiring attached to the fan shround. There are a couple electrical plugs to disconnect and a ground wire near the passenger headlight that needs to be disconnected. There are two mounts on the bottom of each side of the radiator and a bolt on either side of the fan side near the top. You'll also need to unbolt the A/C condensor from the bottom edge of the radiator and support it out of the way. Be careful not to snag the radiator on the condensor or it may cause a leak. If the car has an automatic trans, disconnect the trans fluid lines from the radiator.

In the solenoid pack. Look down between the radiator and transmission. The solenoid pack is right there. Big electrical plug going to it. Clean it and around it well before replacing it. You get dirt in the holes after you remove it. You may have to pull the valve body and clean it.

when vehicle is cold, check your coolant in radiator. make sure its GREEN not milky / light coffee color. If milky, you need new trans and radiator. Nissan extended warrantee for radiators. the radiator cooler fails and coolant will mix with trans fluid and your trans is junk. Nissan has program going where you will pay certain amount of money depending on your milage. start with checking coolant fluid color and let me know.

In and out of limp mode

My 2 experiences with limp mode was on a 93' Chevy. 1 time was the ecm, but it didn't reset until I replaced the ecm. The other time was the main electrical plug that comes from the ecm. The largest electrical plug on the trans. I unplugged it and there was trans fluid inside the plug on the 16 pins that connect the external wire Barnes to the internal wire harness of the trans. This required a new harness inside of the trans and replacing the external harness near the trans. Not an easy fix and may not be your issue, but this issue would "come and go". Fluid would short out the communication at the pins.

check for a pinched or crushed trans cooler line going to the radiator i have seen them crushed from running the car up against parking curbs, underneath the radiator

Man it sounds like you a pretty experianced wrench!
I have solved some of thes electrical gremlins with putting good ground cables fron the engine to the chassis. The electronics get happier with a solid ground

Transmission over heating

sounds like a plugged trans cooler.have it checked for proper flow should be less than 10-15psi if so it needs to be replaced. check to see if the trans cooler lines go into the radiator. if so you will either have to replace the radiator (trans cooler is part of radiator) or buy and install an aftermarket cooler

Do you also have a check engine light on as well?
Go to an auto parts store like autozone where they'll plug it up to a scan tool for the trouble code for free.
How do the forward gears react?...shifts rough?...clunks through gears?...slips? (engine speeding up but forward travel isnt)

Start on level ground...engine cooled.
If low or missing trans. fluid...any leaks?
Check for trans. fluid in the radiator (not the recovery). The radiator is a cooling unit for the fluid and in some cases can rupture , pushing fluid into the radiator itself. Check especially up towards the radiator area where the trans. fluid lines go into the radiator.

Is the access door for the oil filter in place? It needs to be.(has to do with cooling, and area of greater/lesser air resistense)
How about the fluid...smell?...dirty?...gooey?

For trans fluid ,check trans fluid level with engine on, hot and running in park, on level ground.

You have a 4L60E M30 series transmission. Has certain components (valves-solenoids) in it that can keep transmissions from shifting properly should the fluid overheat or the pressure become too high/low.
The usual trouble code this displays is P1870.
Sometimes it is simply a TCC valve out of whack and can be replaced
