Question about 2001 Ford Escape
First thing to do is take the key and manually lock and unlock the door.
See if that fixes everything.
If the steering remains locked try pulling it hard while you try the key
Can you put the transmission in neutral
Try a different key
Try smacking the key into the lock lightly
Hopefully one of the tips will work for you

Your steering column most likely is defective and you should be able to get this fixed under warranty. BMW discontinued this part in 2007. Its might go off if you put the key in the ignition and wait 5-10 minutes, but only maybe.

If you have key numbers on the door, you should enter the code, then immediately start the truck. If this does not work contact the dealer for a sequence to reset the alarm.

Most hardware stores (Ace, TrueValue) have a key shop.
They can make the anti-theft key ($50 ~ $60) and also a regular key that you can use to unlock the door or even turn on accessories.
