Question about 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

I have a 1995 chevy cavalier with a 2.2 liter engine recently it developed a miss fire. The car was taken in for a diagnostic test and we were given a list of problems that were wrong with the car incl. the ignition coils and plug wires which were both replaced. However the initial miss fire remains could you please give me some guidance on how to fix this problem or how to locate the actual issue! Thanks

Well the car is 15years old so it would be best to start off with a compression test.
A misfire can be the result of many things. Check for poor compression in 1 or more cylinders, Stuck, bent, or leaking valve, water in the fuel, Clogged CAT, insufficient fuel pressure (needs to be over 33PSI.), Clogged fuel/air filter, faulty ignition components like coils, plugs, and wires.
Is the Engine Service Light on? If so, I want to know what the code/s are. Let me know.

run fault codes and check for mechanical problems . If you did not have the head machined before replacing the gasket then have a compression test done as you may still have a compression / gasket problem

2002 Chevy Cavalier misfire

You may want to check for fuel volume and fuel quality. There may be moisture in the fuel. It would also help to know which cylinders it is misfiring on. Scan tool will show the misfire on live data.

have you got a check engine light or inspection light showing up on the dashboard? If yes you may need to have a diagnostic test in order to know where to start looking.
