You'll need to check the circuit from the fuel pump relay back to the pump. The computer grounds the relay. If the pump is running the filter could be clogged.
First you have to make sure there is little to no fuel in tank. Drive vehicle untill it is almost empty. Then disconnect fuel pump relay and fuse. Try to start vehicle to relieve fuel pressure. If you do not have a hoist elevate the vehicle on 4 jack stands. Disconnect the fuel line and return line nearest tank. Disconnect filler hose fron tank. Place 18" x18" piece of plywood on hydraulic jack and place under and against middle of tank. Disconnect straps holding tank in place. Lower tank slowly untill you can disconnect electrical connectors. Remove tank and change pump. There is a ring holding sending unit and pump on tank. this ring can be moved with a mallet. Make sure to clean off all debris from top of tank before removing sending unit. Remove sending unit carefuly and remember where float is orriented in tank.
IF U HAVE A BAD FUEL PUMP OR A FUEL
FILTER BUT THE FUEL PUMP BAD BECAUSE OF THE FILTER MORE THAN LIKELY SO I WOULD REPLACE BOTH IF THE PRESSURE IS NOT BETWEEN 45 PSI AND 55 PSI. GOOD LUCK CHEAPEST PLACE FOR A PUMP AND FILTER IS ADVANCE AUTO PARTS JUST REPLACED THE ONE IN MY TAHOE.
Problem may be with the level sending unit, which is part of the fuel pump assembly in the fuel tank. You can check this with a good code reader that will give you live data from this unit and compare it with what the gauge is saying. If they don't match, you can try a good quality fuel system cleaner to see if that solves the problem. If they do match, then the problem is probably still in your instrument panel (IP) or engine computer.
