The starter is on the passenger side of your truck. The starter go's from the motor to the tranny make shure you dissconnect the battery take 2 half inch bolts out drop the starter and disconnect hot wire, to install reverce what you just did good luck CJ

I have a 1983 FORD F-250 equiped with a broken adapter plate.

Your best chance of finding the adapter is at a junkyard (an older one that may have something buried way in the back they haven't gotten around to scrapping) If you can locate a good welding shop, you may be able to have it repaired in-car. without taking it apart. Removal is a big job, especially when on the ground, as transmission needs to be removed to do that.
There are no electronic controls on the trans, so aside from unbolting everything and the actual removal, there isn't much to it. Most important is putting the trans back up without bending or breaking anything. on automatics you need to get the converter installed properly in the trans pump and use a strap or something to keep it from sliding forward while installing.

1988 F-250 gets warm does not want to run

clean the battery posts the starter connections and the starter relay, replace the starter relay and problem should go away, it is located on the firewall passenger side connects to battery and then to starter and one wire goes to the key switch. Try this and I bet your troubles are over.

1984 ford 250 pickup replaced battery no power before i replaced battery, smoke came out apparently the cables were wrong? replaced starter cylenoid and still no power

If you connected the battery wrong, chances are you fried your main fuse box.  Check the main i believe 30 amp maxifuse and replace it.  Your main fusebox should be under the hood in the engine compartment.
