I have to replace the return line on my 2000 cavalier whats the easiest way to do so

well thats easy tk belt off then 6 bolt,s that hold it on and return Hose and presure line and oya fill it up replace it with rebuilt and put it back in

It sounds like you have a bad fuel pump, a bad fuse to the fuel system, or the cut-off switch was tripped to the fuel pump. Check you owner's manual to check the cut-off switch reset. If this doesn't fix the problem and you have replaced the fuse to the fuel system then you will most likely have to replace the fuel pump. Start with the easiest solution first before replacing the fuel pump.

Return is an easy line to replace. If it's old and shabby change it. If it seems to be in reasonably good shape, cut about 1/2" off the leaking end and re-clamp it. (providing you have enough slack)

In my opinion this is a job for a well equipped work shop with experienced mechanics. Safe jacking and vehicle support are issues not easily dealt with in a residentual environment, without considering the amount of cleaning, quantity of oil, flushing for pipes and cooler etc. Unless it's a manual, but the issues of safety and cleaning still remain.

this should be a one peice line. that goes from the rack andd pinion to pump.

Normally this far back the line would have to be reflared to fix the leak. If you have a Firestone auto repair near you they check the brake system at no charge and you can see exactly what is wrong while it is on the lift.

What kind of hose are you using?

Drop the gas tank. Remove lines and electrical connections and replace the pump.
