Power going into the coil pack and nothing coming out should just be a bad coil pack. how many miles on this one?

Is there another trigger for spark? Usually there is a crank position sensor AND a camshaft mounted trigger for your coil pack.

Check it out and repost!

Can you put a grounded test light on the B+ lead to the coil pack and crank it?

If she flashes you may have issues with ICU. If it doesn't flash while cranking.

I didn't see what size engine you have...but they all have one of these in their parts breakdowns.

It is mounted under the distributor. About 33 bucks at your local Autozone!

You mentioned coil packs. Is this motor distributorless?

All the parts lists I see show a distributor pickup but that doesn't make sense with a coil pack and an external ICU?

Can you get a pulse out of your crank sensor when the engine is cranking?

What energises coil pack

Its not what energizes the coil pack, but what controls it, and that is the ignition control module, or ICM. The power to the coil pack is or should be constant, anytime the key is in on or run. The power may be from the switch or from the engine computer, but it is constant.

The ICM takes this primary circuit current from the coils and controls the coils that way. When a coils primary circuit is cut by the ICM, a spark is delivered out top of the coil. The ICM does this when the computer determines spark is needed and sends a signal to the ICM.

A few other things it could be, too, causing no spark, like the crankshaft sensor, or the pcm, but often it is the ignition control module.

i had the same problem on my 94 silverado. it was the ignition control module under the distributor cap. advance auto will test it for free. the icm controls the spark and the injectors. quick fix for around $45 and 10 minutes.

1996 subaru legacy 2.2 Auto No Spark on front two cylinders. after new coil installed still the same.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

The problem can be on the ECU (engine control unit). If the ECU is faulty there can be no spark to the wires even the coil is new. You may try swapping the ECU first.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

96 chevy cavalier had oil pressure issue. Later found it was due to bad crankshaft. Drive it to neighbors house and we pulled the engine and replaces the crank now once installed car is not getting any...

I ASSUME its a 2.2l VIN "4"? Better be SURE you put in the correct crank. Different years have different tone wheels for the Crank Sensor. If it ran before, it should run now. I think 2 wire connector is for power to coils Power to Pink wire comes from IGN fuse A. Pink is 12V, Black is ground, 6 wire plug is for ICM.(bolted to base of coil pack) cant bench test anything. Should be a code 42 if cranked for 5 seconds and no start if its a CKP issue.

No spark at coil pack changed coil still no spark on 2 and 5

Try switching your coil packs around see if you can get spark out of the 2 & 5 with a different coil pack in that location. If that doesn't work maybe your ICM they can test the ICM at autozone, but can't test the coil packs.

I have a 1996 c1500 with a 305 it will start and run for about 3 mins than start running rough and then shut off.you have to wait about an hour before it will start again

Replace the fuel filter first and inspect your ICM (Ignition Control Module). Faulty ICM will fail when it starts to heat up and the engine will do what you have described.
Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter and have the ICM tested and replaced if it's bad. The wire leads to the ICM is also know to go bad from corrosion due to condensation that forms under the distributor cap.
Thank you for using fixya and keep us posted.

Mercedes c200 elegance 1996 model mis-firing on cylinders 1-4

I beleive your firing order is 1 3 4 2. 1 and 4 are companion cylinders-meaning the piston is up or down at the same time i.e. compression and exhaust stroke both pistons are up and even on the exhaust stroke the ignition fires in order to burn unburnt fuel/ h ve you checked your trigger. There is a good coil testing tool that is placed over the coil and has a magnetic pickup that allows you to see if the coil is being triggered-just because you have power doesn't mean that you will have spark. I would replace your ignition wires and look at your wiring harness very carefully- if it is very brittle and you see bare wires exposed that is your most likley problem because the trigger is working for 1 and 3 and has the crank senser input for all for spark plugs and the cam senser is used for ignition advance and your fuel injection system. try wiggling your harness and see if your coils start to work. wireharnesses are a major problem on mercedes benz vehicles of that era. I hope I have been helpful
