Can also be the timing chain , there is a small arm that is spring loaded with a plastic bushing that wares and then you will get a ticking or chattering sound <!-- from fixya rte -->

Worn valve lifter, or the rocker arm needs to be tightened a little.
Have to remove valve covers to see if one is loose.
If it is the lifter, the whole top part of the engine has to be taken off to get at it.
