I have a 2003 ford ZX2 I have a number 2 and 3 cylinder are not getting spark the coil has been tested and found that is was grounded out on one side of the coil I replaced the coil after testing the new coil to the old coil the new one tested good and still tested good i tested the wires going to the coil and i know that its a ground side switch and both sides ohm out ok showing that i dont have a short or a open but i dont have a proper test light to see if i get the correct pulse from the wires and my DMM doesnt have a duty cycle to check nor do I have a scan tool my question is where does the signal that runs to the coil come from i already took a leap of faith and changed the cam shaft sensor i dont know if there is a way to check the wires going to that sensor i can check for ohms for shorts or opens but my main problem is is the signal going to the processor and being sent back HELP!!!

Coil on plug ignition or coil pack ? American vehicle or UK ? The PCM - engine computer controls the coil by the use of a transistor inside . Testin can be do with a test light . Video on youtube , posted by scanner danner , a teacher at a technical school . Should have B+ voltage on one side an the PCM supply's a ground . Have seen a number of fords coil shorts out frying the PCM . Would set a code .

I have a 2003 Ford f150 with a 5.4 . Missing at idle . Showing 300 code. Random misfire. Sometimes 301 and sometimes 303. Where should I start ?

Start by replacing coil and spark plugs for cylinders number 1 and 3 . That would be 1st and 3rd cylinders on drivers side . TIP OF THE DAY
ALWAYS SPRAY SOME WD40 DOWN THE Hole so the spark plugs come out easily.
Good luck

#2 plug not getting pulse fire from cpu side

If your saying number 2 spark plug coil is getting no ground from computer when cranking, I'd have to check wiring connectors on both ends and do continuity test of the ground wire to computer. If everything checks out, check computer.

I suppose you swapped the coil from one cylinder to the next, to see if problem followed the coil?

You do have primary voltage going to coil, correct?

I have a ford f150 that is mis firing on number

The most coomon thing is a coil. You cant really test without a scanner or way to test coil output. But you should replace the spark plugs and the #3 Ignition coil. Use MOTORCRAFT PLATINUM Spark Plugs only. Number 3 is the 3rd back on the Passenger side. Be sure there is no water/coolant on the spark plug well, if there is coolant, one of the heater hoses may be leaking. Take coils out, using a 7mm socket, be sure to blow out the spark plug hole with compressed air before removing the spark plug. Take the rubber boot off each coil and place some "silicone dielectric grease" in th ecavity for the coil end to keep out moisture. Cyls 1 2 3 4 on pass side, 5 6 7 8 on drivers side. After you are done, remove the positive battery cable for a few minutes to clear the memory and long term fuel trims.

I have a 2006 F150 with a 5.4. I have a engine

First remove spark plug. #8 plug is, if sitting in truck, left rear plug. Have someone crank engine while you hold spark plug, connected to plug wire, ground plug to ground. Check spark. If no spark, remove plug wire from coil, connect test light from coil to ground, see if you get spark, if no spark replace coil. Leave cylinder #8 open to air to dry any unburnt fuel in cylinder.
