Hi,
Actually, to clarify this problem; In 2005 GM introduced Dexron VI to supercede all previous versions of fluid to use in automatic transmissions. You can continue to use Dexron III, and it will work fine in your older application. However, Dexron VI is backwardly compatible. This newer specification of ATF is supposed to handle heat and shifting better than the older fluids.

One further imprtant note: Do NOT use Dexron VI in manual transmissions and power steering units.

Thanks, Bill

If you have an older aveo you can use dex/merc (dexIII), but if its a newer aveo you must use the gm t-iv (dex6). dex/merc is not to be mixed with dex6, it will void the warrenty and cause the transmission to fail.

Gearbox Problems

automatic transmissions used by VW in the /Jetta have had a history of hard shifts at first startafter sitting a while.

There have been a number of software updates to improve the situation with the shifting especially to reduce the hesitation engagement. Sometimes the issue can also be a slightly low fluid level in the transmission; in any case, the transmission should have the software and fluid level checked to make sure that they are both up to snuff.

My suggestion is to take it to another dealership for a look; if they refuse to help you, contact the VW consumer affairs people at the 800 number located in your book. Ask to have the local District Service Manager and local engineering tech specialist meet with you at the dealership and be prepared to demostrate your issue with the vehicle.
If this means parking the vehicle outside the dealership overnight, then so be it. You have to be able to prove the situation to them; if they tell you its "normal," have the dealership provide you with a like type vehicle with the same engine and transmission as your own vehicle and drive it for a couple days to see if it acts just like your car.

Wate use oil for transmisson v8 grand choroky 5.2

Hello ab0d 777: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. The correct type of automatic transmission fluid is ATF type 4 fluid. Do not use 2 or 3 as it will have an adverse effect on the transmission shift. You can buy this fluid at any part store or where ever car fluids are sold. It will have a type 4 on the container. Most will say MERCON tepe 4. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

How do i know if my transmission is going out or if im low on fluid? cant seem to find my transmission fluid where would i find it? and what are the signs that my transmission is going bad?

If you know where the oil dipstick is, the transmission dipstick is very similar but closer to the firewall. Engine must be idleing to check tranny. There are normally marks on the stick that read "cold" and "hot". That describes the level of fluid dependant on tranny temp. Transmission fluid should be changed around every 30,000 miles. Symptoms of bad tranny, assuming good clean fluid, are hard shifting, won't shift (i.e.stays in 2nd gear) Or you accelerate and the tranny spins then jerks the car suddenly. An honest tranmission shop can tell.

I just need to know the type of manual tranny fluid used in a 93 sonoma. I tought it was 90 weight, but others are saying that at some point they switched to dextron

Hello charles87: My name is Roger and I can help with your answer. If you have a Borg Warner T5 transmission the you use Dexron 3 transmission fluid. You can tell the T5 transmission by the bell housing splits from the body of the Should you have a New Generation Gear 3500 transmission You would use Syncromesh transmission fluid GM part # 12345349. This transmission has a one piece bell housing and transmission body. Please rate the quality of your answer as this is how we know your answer was correct. Thank You for using FixYa. Roger

2006 Malibu Maxx SS transmission /engine issue

good afternoon and welcome to fixya
all right first of you you need to go and get a second opinion from another shop, i can tell you that you do not need another engine, sounds like a solenoid on the transmissionis not getting the proper pressure, these transmissions are very sensitive to fluid changes and pressures. i would take the vehicle to a well known transmission shop and not tell them that the dealership said you need a new engine. just tell them the problem your having and let them know that that is a new transmission, could just be fluid is a little low. good luck and let me know the outcome and ill try to help you more.

Request information on type and quantity of fluids / oils

Hi there.A auto parts store or a dealership service department can help you determine the type of fluid recommended for your vehicle. The fill area is also the full mark, when adding fluid to the transmission or transfercase the fluid will come out of the fill hole and thats when you will know it is full. Its hard to tell how much fluid is is needed, every vehicle is different, but I believe the transfercase is between 2-3 quarts and the standard tranny is between 4-5 quarts.Keep your receipt and whatever fluids you do not use you can return.Hope this helps.John.
