Question about 1997 Honda Accord

1997 Honda Accord, 4 cyl, auto trans. When I turn

1997 Honda Accord, 4 cyl, auto trans. When I turn the key all of the lights function properly, check engine light remains on, hear clicking noise as if starter is engaging but engine never turns over. I checked the battery and even attempted to jump start the car but symptoms remained the same. Does this sound like a faulty starter? Would like to repair myself to save $$$ if possible.

Replaced the starter this weekend as recommended, now the car starts just fine. Getting the old starter out was a lot more of a pain than I thought (probably just my lack of knowledge/experience) but the replacement starter went in with very few issues. As stated in other posts, any DIYer can replace a starter with just a little patience and save some $$$.

The starter sit on top I belive on the passenger side above the transmission, have some one hold the key to start while you tap or even hit the starter some time it will crank over if it does replace it, not that big of a job. If it still dont start there a big wire that one comes from the battery and a small one that come from you ignition switch ( key ) jump those two wire's ( if stander transmission make sure you have it out of gear ) there should be voltage at big wire all the time, if it still dont crank over replace starter assembly.Hope this was very helpful.

First thing I would check is all frame grounds... like the negative battery cable and the grounding strap on the passenger side motor Mount to the wheel hub. In any electrical system, lights draw more current than anything (except the battery) when you turn them on... Check the grounds!

It's the "shift" solenoid on your transmission has gone bad. Get it at the junk yard for around $80.00. You want the "shift" solenoid, not the "lock-up" one.You can see it on the front of your transaxle. It has a small electrical plug attached and comes off easily. Both solenoids may be together, or you may only have one. Easy fix, but depending on the doner car, your shift points may change (engine may seem racier)

I had the same problem. You can get a new wheel bearing for about $50 (if I remember right) from Advance or some similar auto parts store. Mine was seized up and had to be cut off.
