X-Type Jaguar blowing white smoke

White smoke is steam. Blue smoke is oil, Black smoke is too rich a mixture.

Check your water to see if it is going down. Check your oil to see if there is any water in it.

some cars will steam when warming up as condensation which forms in the exhaust is burning off.

I have a jaguar x-type 2.0d. Sometimes when revving the engine hard, black smoke is blowing out the exhaust quite thickly. I think it might be the turbo. Can anybody shed any light on this for me?

Black smoke is usually carbon, blue oil, and white is steam. I would guess your car has a bad O2 sensor and has been running rich for quite a while.

Black smoke from exhaust

This is almost certainly a split hose - mine was the large hose coming out of the bottom of the EGR valve.

Speaking to a parts guy at my local Jaguar dealer, he said that the new part is uprated as Jaguar are aware that this is a problem.

The split allows more air in and results in the ECU changing the mixture and over fuelling - Black smoke is an indication of un-burnt Diesel. As well as the black smoke you may also notice a whistle/whine or sucking noise when you accelerate and a lack of power / lumpiness at around 2000rpm.

Hope that helps!
