The ignition swith reads the key chip when key is turned, this is a common problem, the ignition switch will need to be replaced, after replacing the swith reprograming will be needed, to program you will need a battery charger to keep battery from going dead, after installing new switch, turn charger on, turn key to crank then release key leaving ignition on, you will see the dash lights, leave key on for about 15-20 min, until you see theft light go out, if light doesnt go out then repeat process, crank for 2 sec, then leave key on 15-20 mins until security/theft light goes out, hope this helps.

Yes, it thinks you are trying to steal it. Take it to a repair shop and have it checked, could be the ign key or tumbler.

If the key is replaced and problem still persists. Check to see if a remote starter is installed. The bypass for the remote start could of shorted or not working causing the faulty code. Some older bypasses required cutting the security wire to mimic the key in the ignition for remote starting vehicle.

Cold morning car wont start

If the anti-theft light is flashing, turn the key to the On position and leave it there until the light stops flashing. Turn the key off, then try to start the car. The Anti-Theft system can get tripped for no reason and cause this exact problem.

The van will start and run for about 2 seconds and quit i changed fuel pump, filter, distubitor, cam and crank sensors and module

Gm vehicles have been known to have faulty anti theft security systems. One of the symtoms of this is when your vehicle starts for 1-5 seconds and then stalls. A good way to know if this is the problem is when you see a light on the dash that says SECURITY. If you see this light flashing or on solid, this explains the van not starting. 2000 ford explorer car starts while theft light flashing runs very rough starving for gas shuts off . changed the fuel already.

Theft light has something to do with the anti theft security system. I know that on GM vehicles, when the TRANSPONDER in the key does not give the correct signal or when the ignition reads the signal wrong, the computer will shut off the injectors or fuel pump. Sounds like this is your problem. THEFT light is an immobilizing problem. Thats why the truck wont run.

I have a 1999 Buick Regal with a 3800 series engine with supercharger. Engine will start but shutdowns immediatly.

Sounds like the PASSLOCK SECURITY SYSTEM is shutting the injectors off.Is the security light blinking off and on?

there is probably something wrong with the passlock2 system. its not reading your key in the ignition. do you have a remote starter? if so take it to whoever installed it and tell them. its probably something they did

2004 pontiac grand am car will not start

the security light will flash and disable the fuel injectors preventing the car from starting, if it thinks that it is being stolen. its easy to fix. set the parking brake to turn off the automatic headlights. next turn the key to the on position and wait ten minutes. the security light should stop flashing. then turn the key off and this will reset the security system. it should start immediatly afterwards.

Car shuts off randomly and security light flashes

Looks like the anti-thef in the key barel arms itself, it immobilize the vehicule for 5 to 10 minutes has you are saying.

If you have a remote starter, disconnect the immobilizer bypass just in case its defective if not they could have putted a resistance to bypass it permanently if its the case verify that it is well connected.

If not you probably have a problem with the key barrel. Since it is probably sending the signal to the anti-theft intermittently.

Chevy cavalier z24 theft system light on

This is a easy fix. Lucky just follow the procedure and your car will start. This is a theft system shut down.
The procedure is. Disconnect battery for a minimum of 30 seconds. ( one post is OK. )
Reconnect battery and get in the car and start as usual 1 time only. When it starts and stops letthe key just return to run position as if it was running. Do not shut it off and if you do you must stert the procedure all over again. i usually put on the emergency brake before i start and that shuts of the driving lights etc.
Just leave the key in on running position and go have a coffee. it takes 15 to 20 minutes for the car to recycle the system. When you come back to the car the flashing theft light will either be off or solid.
Try to start again. If it doesn't go shut it off and turn back on and start as usual. It will start and run and stay running.
The reason you have this problem is something electronic was disconnected whe the battery was hooked up. always disconnect the battery before you touch anything electronic and you will not have this problem.

1997 pontiac won't stay on

i had the same prob. w my 97 grand am. i bought a new ignition switch and installed it...after installing you have to reset the theft system. all you have to do to reset is turn the key far enough for it to bump the motor over then leave the key in the run position for about ten to twenty minutes...might hook bat. to charger cause if it dies in process you have to start all over...the theft light will either blink then stay on or go out completly....
