When you try to start the car, do you see all the dash light on? If on, check the starter relay, normally the relay fail. If no light on, check the mail relay. Let me know.

I had the same problem, make sure your wires are not exposed and shorting on some piece of metal, that could cause a fire. Other than that I would check that starter again, it sounds like it is seized or maybe you have the wires on backwards. If you have an oil leak and oil gets into that starter it will destroy it. Hope that helps!

Try changing the relay first, if it still does it, change the starter, sounds like it's dragging. I have a ford that did the same thing, I changed the starter, no more problem.

I thought the battery was dead because it would not turn over when the switch was turned on. I was at Wal-mart parking lot when this happened so I went inside to get new battery, but did not have tools to...

Ensure that you have not left one of the battery positive cables, ensure that the battery connectors are well sticking to battery terminals. Go back to Wal Mart and get a car tester to check if the battery is properly wired.
Also test using your old battery.
If the car has power, and there are lights and devices coming on inside the car, then the problem is immobilizer.

Car Won't Start

Hi there,

I had the same problem. Thought it was my battery, charged it for hours, thought maybe gas line was frozen-- was not!! Towed it to the dealer and found out it was because of the security system in Alero's. When the car thinks it's being stolen it will shut off the gas from getting to the engine. I am not sure how to reset it as the dealer did it for me, but it is fixable. Just call a garage or dealer to see how to reset it.

My car has a full charged battery and when i turn the key on to start the car all the dash lights come on like they are supposed too but the car does not turn over.

Try to start it in neutral. If it starts you have a bad neutral safety switch. If it doesn't use a 12 volt test light to check for voltage at the small solenoid wire at the starter while someone holds the key in cranking position. If voltage is present you have a bad starter. If no voltage is present check all battery connections and starter relay.

95 Chevy S10 blazer automatic, will not start unless gear shifter is in the right place. Gear shifter has to be jammed into park several times before it will start.

It sounds to me like the transmission safty switch has gone bad. Does the car start while it is in gear? this also would point to the safty switch
