The valve\cam timing can jump if the belt is worn or the tensioner is failing to keep the belt tight, also one of the pulleys may have a bad bearing

Why does it jump time?

It sounds like you may need a timing chain tensioner.
I looked on e-bay and found a kit which includes an "upgraded" tensioner, and includes all the pieces, for only 60 dollars.
God bless your efforts.

83 toyota with 86 22re motor wont rev past half throttle

Probably the timing chain has jumped a cog. Aim a timing light at the timing mark and ensure that it stays in one place when idling. If it jumps around erratically the timing chain has jumped. If not that it could be the fuel filter, plugs and or wires, etc.

Is there a way to check the timing chain without removing the cover ( this is quite a job) for a look at the timing marks

no way of doing so. need to remove cover. i have been doing this since 1996 and have never seen chain driven nissan jump timing. have seen some timing belt cars jump, but never chain driven engines. i think you have something else going on. i have done many and many timing chain jobs on frontiers and maximas, but not for a timing chain jumping issue. upper timing chain shoes wear out and engine gets noisy. i have to say i have seen some with the primary chain stretched a bit, but car still ran fine.

If my car jump time would it still try to turn over but slow?

You have a timing chain which should last 150,000 miles or more.
It could jump time and it could crank slowly but I doubt it.
Do you know if the battery is fully charged ?
Was anything wrong before you replaced the battery ?
Did you try to crank the engine after it cooled off ?

My 1991 240sx is jumping time how do i fix it

you'll most likely need to replace the timing belt and tensioner if it's jumping time, note;;if it's jumping time, does it keep starting? are you sure it's the time thats jumping or is that a guess?most 240's don't just restart after jumping time, they will not restart, unless you adjust the distributor. are you moving the distributor? to make it restart? if the car is just 'jumping' there may be another problem. such as a bad spark plug wire, or a bad plug. also could be a clogged fuel injector. if the car runs at idle byitself, try running fuel injector cleaner through it from the gas tank[recomennd lucas fuel injector cleaner] if not repaired then check for bad spark plug wire, if not that check plugs for a bad spark plug.hope this helps!!

Jumped time

If it jumped ignition timing then the timing belt needs to be replaced. Does the distributor still turn when you turn over the engine? If not then the timing belt is broke. Hope this helps. Remember surveys, thats what keep us here for you

My car jump time

#1 are you sure it jumped time?#2 how do you know this? if in fact it has jumped time you will need to have the timing belt replaced.the average interval for replacement is 60,000-80, is also a good idea to replace the water pump at the same time as it is driven by the timing belt.

2004 ford ranger with a 3.0 v-6 jumped time

jumping a car will not affect timing. if your timing is off then you have another problem. but if you want to reset timing anyway the easiest way is to disconnect the battery for about 5 mins.

Timing settings

my jeep has jumped time and i need to know the exact degrees to set it at please and thank you.

The first thing you need to do is to find out why it jumped time. Jumping time is not normal and shouldn't happen.

Tell me the last repair that was done on the jeep.

When was the timing belt last changed?

Were OEM parts used?

Were tensioners and pulleys changed?
