Sounds like the alternator is going out. The growling maybe from the front bearing in the alternator.

This cart has an occasional growl in the drive line , and slowes down when it does . When growl goes away speeds back up? Seller says just belt slipping ? Any ideas ?

Slipping drive belts give off a loud screeching noise. Not really a growl. You can buy 'Belt Conditioner' from car accessory places. It helps the belt to grip. You spray it on with the engine running.

If it affects the speed of the car, then it isn't a drive belt unless you have a belt driven car or motorcycle. You posted to Cars and Trucks, so we will assume it is a car. I smell a rat and wonder if this is why he is selling it. Take it to a garage and ask them to tell you what the problem is and then go back to the seller with the truth.

I HAVE A 03 CHAVY CAVALIER AND MY BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON TODAY AND MY AIR STOPED WORKING. IT WOULD STILL BLOW BUT IT WAS NOT COOL.

Hi Britnie, The battery light means it's not charging , Alternator problem , possibly ! Is there a auto parts store near you ? Most will check it out for free ! With ac not working too , could be just the serpentine belt . The belt turns the alternator an ac compressor !

What is the growling noise coming from my 94 civic motor

Water pump or pulley most likely.

Always replace water pump and pulleys when you do the timing belt.

Also you may have overtightened the belt.

NOTE, Kevlar belts will make a "whirring" noise for a few thousand miles after replacement, but not a growling.

Car dies and battery light comes on

If the light is on when car is running, the alternator is still not working. Check your power distribution center near the battery for any fuses out. Maybe there is an alternator fuse.
Is your battery good? A completely dead battery may not take a charge from the alternator. It needs to be charged off the car. Have it load tested at a parts store to see if it's good.
Is your alternator belt tight? A loose belt won't let the alternator work to capacity.

Alternator indicator light is on

This warning light comes on when the charging system is NOT producing enough current or voltage to meet your vehicle's electrical needs. The cause may be a failed alternator or generator, a bad battery, a failed voltage regulator (if separate from the alternator), loose or corroded battery cables, or a broken or slipping drive belt. Turn the engine off and check the belt that turns the alternator. Caution: DO NOT get your fingers, clothing or tools near the belt(s) or pulleys while the engine is running.
If the belt appears to be intact and is turning the alternator, start the engine, and turn on the headlights. If the lights are dim, it verifies the charging system is not working -- probably due to a failed alternator, battery or other electrical fault.

Had an oil leak on drivers side of engine,

Most likely have oil in alternator .....have it tested ...if you have never taken one apart i suggest you buy a new one ...but test it first ....clean the area with brake cleaner around where the oil leak was all over and wipe down access ...good luck ...but do not put it in the alternator ..you could cause a fire ...
