Engine sounds like a diesel

I have a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer AWD V8...engine knocks, almost sounds like a diesel engine now. Not sure what the problem is but I do know that either my inbound #2 O2 sensor is bad and if thats not it its the cat converter. But yeah, engine sounds like a diesel. Not sure if its bearings gone bad on one of my tension pulleys or what.

if the engije sounds this bad it is damaged and will need an overhaul.

I would check the oil pressure with a "Wet Gauge" to check what the oil pressure is. I don't think the O2 sensor would cause the sound.

2003 Mountaineer V8 AWD, The engine idle is up and down and sounds like a knocking from the back side of the engine.it will run no problem, but I was advised not to run it and research the problem.

start with checking for a vacuum leak (that may have been the pop?) Scan the ECM for codes & get readings. Poss TPS?

What, if you know, is the average life for a 5.0 V8 engine from a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer AWD (currently has 160,000 miles)

you can get 250-300k easily out of a 5.0 of the engine is properly maintained.

Front differential broke in my 2003 mercury mountaineer v8 how much to fix

Depends I had a whole new used one put in for 1300...I had the front diff replaced 2x and the front driveshaft 2x a Drive shaft by shaftmaster is about 340. Some type of frame tweakage that throes it off. Always make sure you have the same tread on your Mountaineer if you have AWD.

My 2003 Mercury Mountaineer V8 AWD transfer case needs to be replaced. What problems can occur if left untreated?

the problem is the chain inside strechs, could cause case damage, it will soon break and then truck wont move, depending on how bad it is you may be able to drive a bit more, threres just alot of strain there because of it being awd, if it is noisey it doesnt have to be replaced just fixed,good luck.

no you have to remove the vent between the hood and the windsheild its on the out side of the car it sounds like your freshair vent is stuck open
