Have you changed the oil?If not,try changing the oil,be sure to use the correct weight motor oil,and a good filter no cheap filters,I think it uses 5w 30,in the warm months, try this first,if this does not help, have the lifters adjusted.

It sounds like a valve lifter is slightly loose. If it only "ticks" at idle it should not be a problem. If it begins to increase in volume and starts to tick at any other time than idle you need to have it adjusted. It could also be a small amount of sludge deposit blocking the oil. If your oil is dirty change it and the filter.

It sounds like the crankshaft was damaged and is wearing out the new bearings he put in. There is a little play in the bearing were it meets the crankshaft and the is the knock your hearing. I might only make the sound at a specific RPM. Check also the oil screen is not cloged up and starving the engine of vital lubrication. You can purchase a Crank kit from any local auto store that will contain a remachined crank shaft and all the bearings needed to rebuild the bottom end of the motor. You will have to pull the motor to peform this action.

Can engine valves be adjusted on the 1997 nissan

valve tick is completely normal on a KA24DE. if you dont, start running a full synthetic oil. KA's are bullet proof, the motor will last 300k with no real problems...valve tick is nothing. I own 2 nissan 240sx, they have the same motor as your truck. i have a good amount of experience with them. hope that helps

The tick that you are hearing, normally means that the valves, seats or cam is going out.  I would change the oild and add some anti-knock additive to clear this up.  If it still doesn't clear up, you might have bigger problems.

How long have you ran the engine ? I know that they will run rough and sometimes make strange noises for a few secounds or a little bit untill everything get oiled up again. I would make sure all the push rods are back in the right place and that all the lifters are tight.
