Question about 1985 Nissan 200SX

S13 sr20det redtop high idle problem

I have an 1985 nissan 200sx turbo I put the sr20det in ran fine for almost a year but now it wont drop below 1,000 rpm and have the idle tweak all the way down still does it

    You have a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake. The engine can't run without air so if the throttle plate is closed the air must be getting into the engine somewhere else.

G'day mate , standard ratio for leaded petrol was 14.7/1 with unleaded fuels it will be slightly higher , around 15/1 due to the lower ' thermal efficiency ' of the fuel. hope this helps

Can any one help please!!! my 84 300zx AE gradually looses its power whether it's in driving or parking mode. It will restart easily every time. Before the engine looses its power, I step on the gas (while driving/parking), the engine will roar very smoothly and normally. But once it start to loose its power, even when stepping on the gas, it still gradually dies. I have replaced fuel filter but did not help.

Engine runs but sputters when put in gear


Sounds like leak in high pressure side of turbo to inlet manifold tube.
Results in gutless or no performance but idle & revving in neutral ok.
Check for splits or loosened joints.

How white? I would get a can of carbcleaner and spray a little here and there around the intake area to see if you have a vacuum leak. If the smoke is real white like the clouds the you may have an internal coolant leak to a cyl.

is the turbo working? if fitted! the standard turbo is not too reliable, also get a good tune up,problem may be fuel related.

Sounds to me like you have a leak somewhere in the intake system. The idle fluctuation sounds like a vacuum leak- and of course, when the turbo spools up, you have positive pressure replacing vacuum. Look for a loose hose clamp or a torn hose, etc. etc. By the sounds of it, you shouldn't have any trouble finding the leak.

This is for the 2 litre SR20DET engine so not sure if that's what you have - never heard of a 1.6 version. Below is the exploded diagram and a test for the sensor.

The way to check your coils is to start the car and unplug them one by one and see if the note changes, if you unplug one and the note dosnt change then thats the one thats fried.By swapping them around itl still be down a cylinder and will be hard to tell.But yes i bet it will be a coil as i have a nissan also and they do fail and makes it sound like a subaru and smell off petrol.I hope this helps.

IAC valve problem. Nissan has a updated harness (with one way diode inside of the harness) to prevent backfeeding for the IAC valve and a new IAC valve also gets installed. That's where I would look. IAC valve or "idle air control" valve.
