1991 firebird 305 v8 TBI won't start,no fuel reaching carb

fuel pump is inside the fuel tank...you will need to drop the tank by removing the 2 straps that hold it up..make sure you put a jack under the tank so it does not fall and break the fuel lines when you get the straps off.
once you have the straps off , carefully lower the tank to provide access to the lines. Most likely you will need to aquire the fuel line removal tool...you can rent these fron Autozone..once the tank and lines are removed, you will need to get the fuel delivery module(FDM) out of the tank...there is a large "c" clip that holds the FDM in the tank...be careful when removing it cause usually the assembly is spring loaded and will pop up out once the clip is removed...now the bad news...the fuel delivery module may be very expensive for the whole thing...when at the parts store..see if you can just buy the pump assembly...the pump alone should be about 80-100 bucks...a delivery module may cost upwards of 300 or more...reassemble in reverse order...a word to the wise...when you take the tank straps off, there is the possibility that you may break the bolts...my experience with older cars is that you almost always break the bolts...so i just cut them off and replace with new ones

How much does it cost to replace the fuel pump

That all depends on who is changing the pump and where you are going to get your parts from.
Are you planning on purchasing your own parts and replacing the fuel pump yourself? or are you planning on having a shop supply parts and labor?
If you are planning to have a shop do it, the best way to get a price is to contact the shop that you plan to go to. Labor rates can vary considerably from one shop to another. Parts prices can vary considerably too. Some shops may have a 40% mark-up and some can have as high as 80% mark-up on the parts.

Then there is the question of if you are planning to disassemble the fuel pump module and replace just the fuel pump or are you going to replace the entire fuel pump module assembly? Both ways are available for your Windstar (with some vehicles, you have no choice). The fuel pump costs less than half of the price of a module assembly. However, most shops will not honor any warranty if you do not replace the entire module (as well as also install a new fuel filter).

So, I can't really give you a total price because there are too many variables involved. However, I can give you the information below that you can use to compare and make sure that you are not getting ripped off...

Parts Cost (AutoZone.com)
Fuel Pump Module Assembly $212.00
Fuel Filter $10.99
Standard Labor Time Required
Replace Fuel Pump 2.1 Hours
Replace Fuel Filter 0.6 Hours

How do i change fuel filter

2002 Dodge Caravan

Fuel Filter Replacement Procedure

1. The fuel filter is located on top of the fuel tank near the fuel pump module. Fuel lines are permanently attached to filter assembly and must be replaced with the fuel filter.

2. Release pressure from fuel system by removing the fuel pump relay and start the engine and let it die. Crank the engine a couple times after it dies to relieve more of the fuel pressure

3. Disconnect negative battery cable

4. Raise and support vehicle

5. Support fuel tank with transmission jack or floor jack with large plywood board to evenly distribute the weight of the fuel tank. NOTE: It is important to distribute weight evenly to prevent damage to the fuel pump module.

6. Disconnect ground strap from fuel tank

7. Remove inboard fuel tank straps and front "T" strap fastener

8. Lower the fuel tank approximately 6 inches to access the fuel filter assembly.

9. Disconnect the fuel lines at the fuel supply connector and the fuel pump module

10. Remove the retaining bolt and remove filter assembly from vehicle.

11. Reverse removal procedure to install (Don't forget to put the fuel pump relay back )

Truck starts and you can drive it about a mile and it dies if you wait a few mins you can start it back and drive about another mile and it does the same thing again its a 89 f 150 with a 300 6 cyl

It sure sounds like a bad Thick Film Ignition (TFI) module to me. (Also called Ignition Control Module) It mounts to the side of the distributor. You need a special socket to get the screws out of it. The socket and the module should cost less than $50 at most retail parts stores.

How much should a fuel pump and a fuel filter cost to replace in a '02 chevy malibu? my son was driving it and it just cut out and died. I tried restarting, and it turned over, caughed, sputtered, but did...

I would first make sure that fuel waas your problem by checking for pressure and how much you are getting. I am not sure what the average labor rate in your area is as it differs everywhere but the labor hours per my guide to replace both pump & filter is 2.8 hours. Make sure they go on and replace the screen at the pump if you are changing the pump. I hope this helped and good luck.

How would I replace my fuel Filter

The fuel filter is an integral component of the fuel pressure regulator, which is mounted on top of the fuel pump module, located in the fuel tank. When the fuel filter/regulator assembly requires service, the fuel tank must be removed from the vehicle, however, the fuel pump module does not need to be removed.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. You dont have to relieve your fuel systems pressure because your jeep has an automatic bleeder.
  3. Remove the fuel tank assembly.
  4. Clean the area around the fuel filter/regulator.

Fig. Fig. 6: Replace the old fuel filter/pressure regulator mounting gasket

  1. Disengage the retaining clamp from the top of the filter/regulator assembly. Discard the retaining clamp.
  2. Using 2 small prying tools, pry the filter/regulator assembly out from the top of the fuel pump module. The filter/regulator assembly will unsnap from the fuel pump module.
  3. Remove and discard the mounting gasket below the filter/regulator.
  4. Before discarding the fuel filter/pressure regulator assembly, inspect the assembly to verify that the O-rings are intact. If the smallest of the 2 O-rings cannot be found on the bottom of the filter/regulator, it may be necessary to remove it from the fuel inlet passage in the fuel pump module.

To install:

Fig. Fig. 7: Check the condition of the fuel filter/pressure regulator O-rings

  1. Clean the recessed area in the pump module where the filter/regulator assembly is to be installed.
  2. Check the replacement filter/regulator assembly to make sure that the new O-rings are already installed on the assembly.
  3. Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the O-rings.
  4. Install a new gasket on top of the fuel pump module.
  5. Press the new fuel filter/pressure regulator assembly into the top of the fuel pump module until it snaps into position (a positive click must be heard or felt).
  6. The arrow on top of the fuel pump module should be pointed towards the front of the vehicle (12 O&rsquoclock position).
  7. Turn the filter/regulator assembly until the supply tube (fitting) is pointed to the 11 O&rsquoclock position.
  8. Install new retainer clamp (the clamp snaps over the top of the filter/regulator and locks to the flanges on the pump module).
  9. Install the fuel tank assembly.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.

Ignition module?

I had the same problem with my 1992 Transport. I fixed it by replacing the ignition module which took about 20 minutes, and should be easily accomplished by anyone with moderate repair skills. The problem with mine faulty ignition module was resolved temporarily by unplugging/re-plugging it from the computer (under the dash), or unplugging/re-plugging it from the distributor assembly harness. Every time I reseated the connector, the engine started up fine. I could also let the engine set a while, and it would restart. However, when it was decided to fail, there was no fuel being injected into the engine. This is logical since the ignition module tracks the engine RPM and sends this data to the computer to tell it how much fuel to inject. Check your fuel injectors when you crack it over when you experience the problem, and if you get no fuel, it's likely your ignition module. I think i paid 30 bucks at autozone for a new one.

My 2003 Hyundai Elantra Starts by then Dies, as though it's not getting gas.

No! If you can start it right back up I seriously doubt it but you do ablsolutely need to change fuel filters every 15,000 miles and forget about oil changes they do nothing for the car. But a plugged fuel filter will kill a fuel pump and average cost of a gob like that here in Seattle is around $500-700.
But you need to find that leak and fix it you can be loosing enough fuel pressure through that leak to cause a problem like yours.
Please rate me as a fixya! Thank you Randy
