I need to know how to change the spark plugs in a 1994 Cutlass Ciera S 6cyl 3.1 engine

The two upper motor mounts, between engine and the bar running across the top of the radiator, must be disconnected at the engine end and the engine rotated forward, so that the rear plugs can be worked on. On a Chevy, there is a second hole in one of the mounts (dog-bone mount) that can be used to hold the engine forward. I'm not sure if the Oldsmobile has this type of mount or not. Describe your how fix my pontiac 2000 montana Problem changing spark plugs

Inspection

Inspect for the correct routing of the spark plug wires. Improper routing may cause cross-firing. Inspect each wire for any signs of cranks or splits in the wire. Inspect each plug wire boot for tearing, piercing, arcing, carbon tracking or a corroded terminal.
If there is any corrosion, carbon tracking or arcing indicated on a plug wire boot or terminal, both the plug wire and component it was connected to should be replaced.

Removal & Installation

3.5L Engine

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the left side spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  3. Remove the left side plug wires from the retaining clips.
  4. Rotate the engine for access as follows:
    1. Set the parking brake.
    2. Shift the transaxle into neutral.
    3. Remove the engine mount strut bolts. Swing the engine mount struts aside.
    4. Install the Engine Tilt Strap J-41131.
    5. Pull on the engine in order to rotate the engine forward.
    6. Tighten the strap.

  5. Remove the right side spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  6. Remove the plug wires from the retaining clip.
  7. Remove the spark wires from the ignition coils.
  8. Remove the plug wire assembly from the engine.
NOTE If you are replacing the spark plug wires, the spark plug wire conduit and retaining clips should be transferred to the replacement wires.

To install:
  1. Install the right side plug wires to the ignition coils and then the spark plugs.
  2. Install the spark plug wires to the retaining clip.
  3. Rotate the engine back to the original position.
  4. Install the left side spark plug wires to the ignition coils and then to the spark plugs.
  5. Install the spark plug wires to the retaining clips.

3.9L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the intake manifold cover.
  3. Remove the left side spark plug wires as follows:
    1. Disconnect the left side spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
    2. Disconnect the left side spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
    3. Remove the left side spark plug wire clips from the intake manifold and heater inlet and outlet pipe.
    4. Remove the left side spark plug wire assembly.

  4. If removing the right side spark plug wires, the engine must be rotated for access as follows:

  5. After rotating the engine, remove the right side spark plug wires as follows:
    1. Disconnect the right side spark plug wires from the spark plugs and ignition coil.

  6. Remove the right side spark plug wire clip from the ignition coil bracket.
  7. Remove the right side spark plug wire assembly.

To install:
  1. Install the spark plug wire assembly.
  2. Install the right side spark plug wire clip at the ignition coil bracket.
  3. Connect the plug wires to the ignition coil and spark plugs.

I have a 2001 oldsmobile silhouette and I need to change the spark plugs I see the three up front but I am not sure how to get to the three in the back?

You'll have to rotate the engine forward.Remove the air cleaner duct and accelerator cable.Place transmission in neutral(Block rear wheels). Remove the two bolts and detach driver's side torque strut(front engine mounts) .remove one bolt from radiator side of the passenger side torque strut. Use a ratchering strap attach to radiator support and engine lifting eye, rotate engine forward. remove coil pack to ease access to spark plugs. Good luck!!

How do you change the back spark plugs

First up to gain access to the rear plugs, you need to rotate the engine forward. Sounds crazy, I agree. When I first heard it I was thinking they are nuts, but, it rotates: 1) Block rear wheels 2) Put transmission in neutral 3) Remove the air cleaner duct and air cleaner 4) Remove the bolts (1 each) from both forward engine torque struts (they are the two things bolted down on each side of the hood latch on top of the radiator. remove the bolt from each of these that keeps the engine in place) 5) Use a ratchet strap to rotate the engine forward to gain access to the rear plugs
Tips: If the engine does not want to rotate enough, you may need to go under the van and disconnect the exhaust manifold from the rest of the exhaust system. It is not hard to find. Follow the pipe towards the engine, just to the rear of the engine there will be an exhaust flange with 2 bolts, remove those disconnecting the engine from the rest of the exhaust. Now the engine should rotate even farther forward. Some manuals claim that there is a flex pipe on the exhaust already, however, I know personally that my van does not. You may also have a similar situation. This may sound like a lot, but it can be done in a few hours.
The first time I tried, I did not know about the exhaust thing and could not reach the rear plugs. I took it in to a shop and it cost me over 160 bucks for them to do it. Mostly labor. For the first time going through, I would allow yourself about 4 hours to make it happen. Only because you are going to have to use a systematic approach step by step and figure out the van as you go. The shop took 2 hours to get it done.

I am trying to find out how to rotate my tires and find spark plu

rotate tires front to back on the same side.

if you have an engine appearence cover, you must remove it. otherwise the spark plugs should be easy to locate. just follow the spark plug wires to the spark plug. in the case of a coil for each plug, the coil will have to be remove to access the plug

Changing spark plugs in my 1996 lumina van with 3.4L engine w a/c it looks like a bear of a job, cant even see plugs from under neith

To access you rear plugs, you need to disconnect the front top engine mount, then put the vehicle in neutral and pull the engine forward (with a large pry bar) and lock the engine to the mount base using the engine mount bolt. Don't forget to chock your wheels so the vehicle doesn't roll away. And really, the job isn't difficult at all.

Changing Spark Plugs

There is 6 plugs on your engine. The 3 in the front you should be able to get with a spark plug socket,extension- and rachet. Once you take car of those three you have to rotate the engine forward to reach the rear three. then you have to rotate the engine forward
To rotate the engine forward you have to:

1: block the wheels and place the car in neautral, then disconect the negative battery cable.
2: disconnect the air intake duct.
3: remove the torque strut to engine bracket bolts, and swing the struts aside. place the bolt back inside the passenger side bracket.
4: using a pry bar in the passenger side bracket, rotate the engine forward and secure it in this position, to secure the engine in the forward position it will require connecting a rachet strap to the engine and to the frame or radiator support.
5: reverse the procedure when you have completed the task. put the car back in park and torque the strut to engine bracket bolts to 35ft-lbs

When you have the engine rotated forward it will be much easier to access the rear 3 plugs. to find the plugs once you have the engine rotated all you have to do is follow the plug wires to each of them.
make sure you remove the wires and replace the plugs one at a time so you dont mess up the firing order.
