2002 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4 with repeating error codes P0335,P0340

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4 with repeating error codes P0335 and P0340, camshaft and crankshaft position sensor. I have replaced both sensors with no luck. The car idols as if it was running normal but when in gear and accelerating it acts like its missing and has no power and it also has a loud hissing sound (that I can't locate.) At my witts end.

I have a 2002 galant and error codes p0335 & p0340 keep coming up. I changed the sensors and had autozone erase the codes but after I turned engine off and started again the codes came back up! Has...

some vehicles set these codes when ignition is turned on but engine not running,
but then goto a not pressent code(history code) or no code present, when engine is running. This may be the way the system works, which with genuine scanner it may
show this but with some aftermarket scanners may only show that the code sets,
not what its status is or if its gone, it remains displayed.
So you could clear codes, engine not running, cycle ignition and if code comes back again without starting engine this is normal for this system (NO FAULT).
If it only sets again when engine has run,
is cam timming correct?
teeth on reluctor wheel all o.k. bent or dammaged?
or debris stuck to reluctor wheel?
Earth circuit could be shared with both sensors is it ok? -repair wiring or bad earth.
low Ohms reading test from sensor connector.
Is power to sensor circuit uninterupted & ok? -repair wiring

My service engine soon light came on and the error code was p0340, what is it?

Autozone will read the code and give you a print out of the definition for free.

Or you can google p0340 maybe add galant and you will find out what is is.... (camshaft position sensor)

2002 Mits Galant has a hard time to start

Your P0340 is a different problem from your P0303, but they may be related.

Since the code P0340 indicates that there is something wrong with your cam speed sensor, your misfiring in cyl3 may be caused by this.

This points to addressing the P0340 error before the P0303 since it could be contributing to the 303 in the first place. Look at your cam speed sensor in cyl3 and maybe this would solve both problems at once.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I found a couple of good articles on those codes. Rather than just copy and paste here are the links:
