Cuts off while driving

Without warning, my GLE wagon just cuts off, like someone pulled the battery post. NO Sputter, No nothing. This is the second time. when i rolled to a stop the first time it happened. I turned the ignition off, then back on and it started right up. The secone time it died, i kept my foot on the gas and it "came back to life ". I checked the post to make sure they are not loose. what else could it be? What should i have checked out?

Tx but i already had the fuel filter changed around a year ago. I did a check of the wiring myself and did not find any loose, or frayed. The year of the car is 1988 with almost 200 thousands care free miles.

I had the part replaced and it cut out two days later. so?

Battery or altenator if there is no power. If there is power but acts like no gas, then you could have a clogged fuel filter or faulty throttle position sensor.

Watch the RPM's and I suspect you will see this dropping below 500 as you come to a stop

likely cause will be the IAC, Idle Air Control motor
This is used to keep air flowing to the engine when you have your foot off the accelerator

you could try to clean it but its tough to get inside where the real action occurs

    price it...you'll find its cheap!

Since it come out of it's fit when you held the gas pedal down I think maybe it is a fuel problem. A dirty fuel filter or a dirty screen in the gas tank. I don't see what year the vehicle is and mileage. The sudden cut off while driving sounds like ignition. When they are starving for gas the lose power or stutter so next is ignition to consider. We had one stump us like this and we finally found a bare wire that runs to the distributor was touching and would shut off the engine. When the car was stopped the wire was not touching so it would start. But certain or continuous vibration would eventually shake the wire enough to touch metal and it would shut off just like you describe your car. The wire had worn through over time. Try this let me know how you do I am interested.Darrell Sorenson

Is the engine warning light on in the dash? Need to check the codes. There is a way to do it without an analyser using the ignition switch. Varies from car to car so ask a technician.

1983 Buick LeSabre Wagon, cuts out driving down the road

Find the EGR valve on the intake and locate the vacuum hose that is connected to it. Start the engine cold and as it warms up, pull the hose off and if it idles and drives fine, the EGR valve is bad and needs to be replaced. Please rate me on this answer.

The Hombre cuts off without warning while driving. Then it cranks back up.

sounds like a fuel filter problem, when the engine shuts down, the blockage settles, then when driving, the fuel pump draws the blockage back.......check fuel filters

1993 lincolin just cuts off as you are driving

Does it also sputter when you are taking off from a stop or while driving if you accelerate? With my 1994 LTC, the problem has always been the MAF(Mass Air Flow) sensor that is between the airbox and air duct.
