Question about 1996 Volkswagen Passat
Remove the switch and give it a clean and lube the contacts etc with a switch lubricant as these fail often(contacts glazed not corroded or damaged) and cost lots of good hard earned cash to replace.Mine failed to work hazards or turn signals and a clean was all it took for trouble free service and i know other passat owners who replaced perfect switches just needed a cleaning. To remove the switch, gently prise the front push plate off and the prise the switch housing out gently. No moving parts to lose as it's just a spring loaded finger up/down slide mechanism that glazes and stops contact and a little water paper might be needed to sand down the contacts then a lube.
