Like most people you don't have a fuse diagram, check each fuse with a volt ohm meter, then check for voltage at the switch, then bridge the harness with a cotter pin or piece of wire and see if the taillights work, if not chace for voltage at the sockets, and check the grounds, this should lead you to the problem

Automatic trasmission lever is stuck in park position


When this happens, usually it is because of a failure in the gearshift selector switch solenoid.
The gearshift selector solenoid is the switch that unlock the lever from park position when driver turns on the ignition and release brake pedal.
When brake pedal is depressed with selector in park position, this energizes the solenoid, unlocking the shifter.
Teh solenoid is energised by same circuit connecting the brake lights.
When for some reason (a short for example) the brake light fuse that protects the circuit blows, this will result in a failure to energize the solenoid, and lever won't be released from park position.
You find the fuse in the fuse box, on Discovery this is fuse number 1. This is a 15 Amps blue fuse. Fuse is located in the fascia fuse panel.
In most cases you fix the problem by replacing the brake light fuse.

Another reason for a failure to energize the solenoid is a faulty brake light switch.
This means the solenoid itself is faulty and need to be replaced.

How to proceed:

Check brake lights. If brake lights are not working, check and replace fuse number one in the fuse box. This will solve the problem in most cases.

If fuse keeps blowing there must be a short in the brake lights wiring.
You will need to access the rear light access panels and unplug the wiring harnesses that connects to the tail light assemblies.
Replace the fuse and try again to start the car, with all tail lights harnesses disconnected. If it starts drive the vehicle to the nearest mechanic, the vehicle will not be safe without tail and brake lights.

When fuse is not blowing check the brake light switch. Remove the panel above the brake pedal. There you find several switches, the second from the bottom will be the brake light switch. Unplug the switch connector, put parking brake on, turn on ignition and short the two green wired pins.
You should hear a click, while shorting the contacts move the shifter out of park position

When brake light are working fine, and lever stays on park position, it is usually the solenoid or its connections that are faulty. Try connecting directly the solenoid to power. The solenoid is connected to red and black wires. Apply 12 Volts across the wires, following polarity. If this worked the solenoid will click, and you will be able to move the gear out of parkposition. When there is no click you need to replace the faulty solenoid that is located in the shifter assembly.

2006 brake light will not go out


Light gets power from brake light switch/.May be switch got shorted an brake light getting non-stop power causing it not to turn OFF brake light.

Get the brake light switch checked. Check volt at brake light switch.

It can be faulty brake light switch causing the problem or its wiring short for switch.

I have a 91 ford f150 and the brake lights wont work and the rear right blinker is dim. Can you help me?

I know what you're thinking, you might say all three brake lights at once? But in reality one brake light went out at a time and you did not notice. People only tend to notice something when they almost run into the back of your car to help persuade them to inform you the brake lights aren't working. Remove any of the brake light bulbs to confirm the bulb is okay or burned. After the bulb has been removed inspect the filament and replace if failed. If the brake light bulbs are okay continue to the next step.

Basic switches have just two wires, power in and power out to the turn signal switch. It should illuminate the test light, if electrical power is connected through the switch go to the next step. If no power is detected through the switch the brake light switch has failed and replacement is required. If your car is equipped with more than two wires integrated into the brake light switch a car repair manual is needed to locate the proper brake light circuit wiring.

All brake lights on my 307 have stopped working at once what could be the problem


Hi,

This is caused by one of two things.

1) Blown fuse - check the fuse box for the fuse that controls the brake circuit. Replace as necessary.

2) Bad brake switch - If the fuse is not blown this indicates a faulty brake switch on the brake pedal itself. This will need to be replaced.

Break lights dont work, I replace the lights how do you replace the break fuse what should I look for?


Bulbs are just like a fuse to for they blow out like a fuse. You have a brake light switch mounted near the brake pedal. Check that switch out with a OHM meter. Just unplug the switch and feed the Ohm meters contacts into the switch. Then push the brake pedal down to see if it completes the circuit. If a OL reading is showing at all times the switch is bad and needs to be replaced

Brake light not working


First ensure the bulbs are fine.

Check and replace the fuse in your fuse box.

If it keeps blowing after replacing the brake lights fuse, then there is a short on the wires, you need to check wiring.

If fuse is ok and there is no brake light check wiring to the lights, there is a broken connection or an open wiring to the brake lights.

Note: brake lights are usually not dependent from tail lights, they have separate wiring.
