I have the same problem in my '01. I recently took it to the mechanic to get break work done and he said it was more than likely the O2 sensor.

Check alternator output sounds like it quit charging. With engine running you should have 14+ volts at battery.

Vsc and motor light on

I had Advanced Auto check the code. While there were other potential causes, it was the Gas Cap! Replaced it and no problems since. The lights for VSC and Check Engine went off a few miles down the road

Car sat in parking lot for 3 days, with a lot of rain. Upon start up Check Engine & VSC began to flash. Car ran normally for 2 miles. Pulled over shut down car, waited 10 seconds re-started engine...

It likely had water on the ignition system. The check engine light will flash for misfire. The VSC light is on just because the check engine light is on. You likely have it dried out now and its fine. You just need to clear the codes. Autozone will do this for free.

Check engine light and vsc trac off lights stay on. Cannot turn svc off by pressing button on Dash

Hi, have you scanned the vehicle to see why your check engine light is on? IF no, you need to. Toyota/Lexus computer system illumniates both engine light and VSC lights whenver a fault occurs in either unit. VSC or stability control is like trac-control or ABS braking system. Get car scanned and make sure all computers are scanned for additional codes, repair them first reset lights and test drive. ON a side note, fixing check engine light will usually take VSC light away also, however sometimes the VSC system will glitch out and a Steering Angle relearn is necessary, it takes about 3mins to perform and a good quality scan tool with 2004 current software. Good Luck.

The other problems is the Catalyst System (engine light) about $1000 for parts.I have about 147,000 miles on my '04 and the problems started about 130,000.

My Toyota, 2001 4 Runner, has just had (within the last 45 miles driven) the VSC OFF light the VSC TRACTION light and the Check Engine light come on. What do I need to do and how did this...

any time your check engine light comes on it will turn off the vsc. you need to have your codes pulled for your check engine light and repair that issue then the vsc off light will go out as well. you can stop at your local parts store"autozone" and they will be able to pull your code once you have your code i can assist you in the proper repair

VSC TRAC, TRAC OFF and CHECk ENGINE lights

You have to know what code is stored to fix the problem. Toyota's will generally display a Check Engine light, VSC and TRAC light all at the same time, even if it's a simple problem with an oxygen sensor (for example). You can disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes, even though you should a scan tool should be used, to clear out the code.
