There is a tensioner pulley that puts pressure to hold belt in place. You can use a long wrench or a breaker bar and socket, put on tensioner, and either push down very hard or pull up very hard and it lets all of the tension of the belt so you can remove it.
It is the pulley that has rubber inside of it so it flexes. There is only one so it shouldn't be too hard to find. If you absolutely can't find it, then loosen up the altenator to remove the tension.

When I replace belts, I usually pull the tensioner pulley up or down (do not remove the pulley from vehicle) Then once Pulley is lifted away from belt, then grab belt and pull it off. Sometimes loosening up the altenator helps as well.

How do you tight the serpentine belt in a matrix. when i am putting in the alternator back in place but am having trouble putting in the belt on it.

It takes a long wrench to turn the bolt for the tension pulley.
You release tension on the belt to remove it, then let go of the pulley when you have the belt back on.
The tensioner is spring loaded and keeps the belt tight.
There is a video on YouTube.

Hi im having trouble removing the small allen head bolts that hold the crank pulley on on a 1999 daewoo leganza 2.2l are the left or right hand thread . im trying to remove them to take off the timing belt...

You will not need to remove the crankshaft pulley. There will be a belt tensioner that you release to be able to remove the belt. But im not familiar with your car.

Open this link, the tensioner is pictured:

https://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?A=NBHT43106_0323240851&An=599001+101999+50019+2019002+28951&Ar=AND(P_RecType%3aA)

Looks like you release it with socket bit with an allen wrench.

Rotate the tensioner and you can remove the belt from the tensioner, then release the tensioner after you pull the belt off the pulley.

I have the new serpentine belt on my 1996 Cadillac Sedan deVille, but am having trouble tightening the tension.

the tensioner should move counter clock wise to place tension on the belt clock wise to remove belt there is a bolt in the center of the tensioner that bolts it to the engine remove this bolt to detach the tensioner from the engine reverse to install the tensioner will place the correct amount of tension against the belt hope this helps

How to adjust a tensioner on a 2001 chrysler voyager

You mean your belt tentioner, serpentine belt, it is not adjustable if your belt is coming off you have a bad tentioner, bad pulley or your power stering pump is leaken and your belt is soaked, if oilly firts found your leak (most common is a hose from reservoir to pump) then replace belt with a cheap belt (had lost of trouble with Life time or hi dollar belts), in the mean time also inspect your tentioner if ani play side ways replace it, also remove idle pulley and spun it close to your ear, if any noise replace it, you may get away with a single item changed, but for trouble free time, replace all items: belt tentioner ($38) idle pulley($25) serpentine belt ($25)

remove r-front wheel bracket 1 15mm nut 1 bolt note flat washer location under lower bracket not on outside but inside surface. then platic shield 3 10mm self tappers up inside frame rail and 1 underside lower radiator support which is tuff to get at just jam your socket in there. then 2 plastic push fasteners one under headlight in wheelwell area to cover and 1 at the back of cover that goes into k-frame this one is going to break if it does use a short sheet metal screw and washer on assembling. ther are 2 serp belts first draw a picture of routing trust me it looks like you cant forget but it may save problem later. just above ac compressor is tensioner use a 15mm box end and releive tension turn right. belt comes off compressor first. remove and go for alt belt. this one is ruff 15mm bolt bottom of alt. loosen dont remove. underhood from top 1 15mm nut top of alt. loosen only. there is a 13mmbolt adjuster not easy to see pointing from firewall to front bumper loosen and remove belt. do not over tighten this belt when installing you will be doing alt. if you do. before you put cover back start car and recheck belt adustment.

Mercury Cougar 1999 V6 Starting problem.

To remove the alternator, you have to remove the serpentine belt. They have a tensioner in which you place a socket wrench and pull on it and it loosens the belt. Before removing the belt notice how it is routed. Some vehicles have a diagram on the hood or on the front near the grill. You take the belt off. Then you remove the alternator by removing the bolts attaching the alternator to the engine. There are two or three bolts you have to remove. Two of them are fairly big bolts. About a size 14 metric or so. Disconnect the negative battery cable battery so you won't hit any grounds. Then take off the plugs from the alternator and the small nuts that hold the wires. Notice how they are placed before removing so you can know where each plug goes. Then replace the new alternator. Plug it back up and install the same way you took it out.Replace the belt starting from the left to right and pull on the tensioner and reinstall.

How do I remove an alternator from a 1991 Buick Regal Gran Sport

Is it a serpentine belt? If so, there should be a small pulley, called a tensioner. Loosen that, and you should be able to remove & replace your belt.

91 vw jetta 1.6l diesel belts

These engines are identified as an interference engine and on no account must the crank shaft and cam shaft be moved with the timing belt removed. You no not need to remove the water pump. You need to remove the water pump pulley only (not the water pump). I trust this helps.
