Question about 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

I am looking for the key thing that you use to take off the hubcap from a 1997 Grand Marquis. When we bought the car this tool did not come with the car. I am wondering what the part number is and where can I buy one. Thank you, Laura Schlabach

You will need to call the dealer for a replacement. They will be able to set you up. No repair shop will have it or tire shop. Obviously you will need your own in case you end up with a flat tire. . Are you sure you looked everywhere. Under the spare tire. ??. In all the compartments in the trunk ?.

Only the dealer has the part number. You need to call the dealer since there are differnt hub caps and all take a different tool. I have no clue witch hubcap you have on your car. An early 97 will possible have a different hubcap than a later 97 model. So it would be easy to order the wrong part if you just tell them a number without verifying your ordering the corrcect part for the production date in question

Hubcap removal tool, is it necessary for a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis?

There are about 8 different keys. Each one is the same size, but the notches are in different places much like a house key.
And a standard size metric socket is either 16mm or 17mm.
If the bolt is on tight enough that you can' t turn it with any socket, you will need to drill out the bolt, or cut a hole around the bolt with a hole saw. You also may be able to take a chisel or hacksaw and notch the bolt and use a flat bladed screwdriver.
You might be able to use a star socket if you had one.

Need replacement ignition key for my 1987

A 1987 does not have the theft prevention chip in the key, so yes, you can. In case it is a 1997, you need the chipped key to start the vehicle. This would have to be aquired from the dealer.
