Question about 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Open Question

2005 PT Cruiser (base model). Front swing arm bushing worn out (arm pushing against car when going around a corner). They want $400.00 to fix and recommend a front end alignment added which brings the total to $700.00 +!!! Any suggestions? (P.S. this was Firestone Auto's estimation for repair.)

SOURCE: can't remove front tires on 2002 PT Cruiser

Put Axle Stands under the chassis for safety

Use a large hammer 7lb or more to hit the sidewall of the tire at the top and bottom.

The wheel and the hub are rusted together , brute force is required to part them

Take it in & have it scanned, may only be a faulty solenoid or even brake switch may cause code & symptoms. Sooner you get it in, the cheaper it will probably be to repair it

My moonroof on my 2005 PT Cruiser will not retract. One side seems to catch on something as only one corner starts to move. The rear vent pop up works fine. How do I remove the window to check it?

you need to remove the head liner to inspect. try pushing down on the corner that is stuck while trying to open. a lot of the time the back of the roof gets wedged against the roof roof.lol. and it needs to go down before it will go back

I have a 2001 PT Cruiser. I recently replaced the front struts and I happened to notice the bushings on the lower control arm (A-frame?) looked worn I am still hearing some thumping over bumps (but a lot...

leave it to a garage as they will need special tools if you can buy the bushes ,normally its a complete lower track control arm and the tracking will need checking afterwards ,Special tools required are a hacksaw and big hammer with suitable old big bolts as drifts ,remove the track control arm and then set light to the rubber in the bushes with a blow torch or a BBQ or a small bonfire ,then when rubber is burnt out and the inner piece drops out unclip hacksaw blade and push through hole mount blade ,cut a slot in the metal housing then the old piece will tap through ,take new bush and push a screwdriver through the hole and lightly run the outer casing over a bench grinder to take a knats whatsit off then put in the freezer compartment and leave for a hour ,warm up the track control arm hole either with blow torch or bonfire and then the bush will go in fairly easy with a few taps from hammer or push in with a big vice ,This is the cowboy way of fitting and not the text book recomended way but it will work ,wasnt a commercial fleet truck fitter for a many a year for nothing .No tracking gauges ?? got a tape measure ?? set to equal back and front taking measurement from lip on end of wheel rim not the tyre. Now when i was in the desert and we captured abandoned tanks ??? sorry that was the old mechanics that taught me 40 yrs ago but the dodges to get them going still applies today .

Pt cruiser front end has lots of squeeking and groaning when turning or going over bumps

these cars are very common for blowing out control arm bushings and sway bar links. the rear most bushings of the front control arms come out of their sleeves ( they look like a soft hockey puck) causing the arm to come into contact with the frame, making noise. have a look, hope this helps!

I have a 2003 pt that makes noise from the front end when you hit a bump in the road

I have a pt cruiser myself and love it but they have a problem with lower control arm bushings that wear out allowing the control arm to drop and smack on the sub frame. For the most part this is not dangerous unless the bushings are completely deteriorated. Also sway bar link pins rattle when they get worn. This is the lesser of two evils for the fix is alot cheaper i hope this helped:)

A banging noise when going over bumps? I'd guess the lower control arm bushings are worn. This is relatively common, and would exhibit this symptom.

Rear wiper blade

If you still have your '08 Cruiser, I just changed mine (I'm also a Mom)...You have to pop off the plastic cap on the base of the wiper where it attaches to the window, then with a small wrench, take off the hex nut. Work the wiper arm off the spindle, then replace like the front wipers...push old wiper hook up, pull thru, and replace blades per instructions in the blade package...Pat
