You need to check for codes to see if a sensor in the transmission is at fault, The first step is always checking for codes if you havn't yet.

My 93 dodge Dakota runs up to 4000 rpms before it shifts but it still idles really high after that. its a v6 3.9L automatic. I think its the shift linkage but I don't know how to adjust it. ive...

If it goes into gear correctly it's not the linkage. I.e drive reverse etc. I would suspect a pressure issue in the trans for the high shift rpm. Possibly low pump pressure or a valve body issue. The high idle could be a result of this or possibly a sticking cable if it has cruise. Possible vacuum issue also.

Drops out of 2 gear

way to vague-if its a manual trans the trans has wear-if its an auto check fluid level/then color/smell of fluid-usually internal though-try an aamco if you have 1 nearby-they probably will test drive it for free & tell you alot better

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 46 RH auto transmission. after the motor / trannie gets warm it starts to slip out of gear 2, 3 , 4, if i let off the accelerator and downshift it will eventually go back into...

Other than removing & cleaning the valve body

ANY SLIPPING EVER in the life of that trans,
will eventually lead to a rebuild

That one went 18 years in my dakota & still
good when I parted with it a year ago

Most rear drive transmissions, last ten years & transaxles
are on their death beds from day one.

Unless you actually back probed the sensors with an oscilloscope
& scan tool data was next to non on OBD 1,it is possible
the sensors were never bad

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee - V6 engine with a Automatic 4-speed Transmission. Unit will not shift out of 1-2 speed into 3-4 gear. I have checked shift linkage - is OK & TV linkage OK. Is there a vacuum...

The only thing that you can do is check the trans fluid.Start car,run it through all gears and end in neutral.Handbrake on.Now check the trans fluid level.Make sure engine is warm.If needed add fluid. If this is not the problem,a tranny expert is the go.There is not a lot anyone can do with an auto trans at home.Hope this helps

2000 Chevy Prizm Lsi 4-speed auto trans. problems

That does sound like a linkage adjustment problem.

If that does not work, I'd try a fluid change and filter. But your diagnostics with pulling on the gear shifter is a pretty good indication of a linkage problem.

98 Saturn SL2, manual trans. No reverse or 5th gear.

1.do see for new OEM replacable shifter parts 2. if unable to find do as following   like you have mention below that if some riveted to trans exterior remove those rivet & make it fix with that rivet size locking nut bolt system  3.like you are telling that there are sifter cable on your trnasmission system so better check for that part & replace with genune OEM part 4. if every thing you are trying is troublefull then switch the car to nearest authorised service centre for more trouble free hazard free driving untill then have safe driving take care & do keep in contact sir for more quaries...!

Changing from 98 2.5 man.tranny,to 01 3.9

WOW. You want to put a 3.9 ltr V6 from a 2001 Dakota into a 1998 Dakota with a 2.5 ltr 4 cylinder? And you want to keep the manual trans? Have you considered what you will be using for a fuel and engine managment system? If you have a wrecked truck as a host vehicle then the changover may work. But it will take patience and a lot of work. I don't think the 4 cylinder trans will bolt up but I am not sure - never tried that. However that light duty trans will probably not handle the torque for very long even if it did bolt up. Your local Auto Salvage Yard will have a changeover guide and be able to tell you if that trans will fit either engine. My recommendation is to swap everthing and change that 98 to a 01, auto trans and everything.
Good Luck
Let me know how it goes?
