Question about 2002 Volkswagen Golf

My vw mk4 golf gti keeps cutting out, it can happen at traffic lights or when driving, the car looses all power it will start up soon after; I have replaced the fuel pump and filter and cleaned out the fuel lines but it still cutting out. I?m about to loose my mind any help would be appreciated.

My car is doing something similar, it is not the maf for sure in my case.
For me it doesn't feel like a fuel cut-off issue, but more like an electrical shortage issue. almost as if my alternater just dies and comes back to life again. sometimes a blinker would make the car nearly stall, for next thing you know its driving perfectly again..... its driving me nuts too...

    happened to me. took it to vw and believe it or not it's the crank shaft sensor. i wouldn't have guessed it either, but that's the fix.

    Happened to my sisters MK4 1.4 golf too and was a couple of wires in the crankshaft sensor (engine speed sensor) circuit. they had rubbed the insulation off each other even tho they had not been tampered with and were in the original cable routing.
    This would lead me to think this could be a common issue with this age/model.
    The problem was with 3 wires that come out of a T junction in the cable routing and go into a plug just behind the left hand side of the top of the engine. in the area where dip stick comes up.

    Just taped them up to stop them touching and shorting. btw the car was showing engine speed sensor fault on my diagnostic code reader

Same trouble ! I have cleaned the oil sump and pick up pipe, replaced old spark plugs with the best I can get ! Replaced the oil and filter fully synthetic for the gti 18t ! Put on a new fule filter ! Still randomly cuts out and won't start for about 30 minuets !! It's driving me NUTS !! Next I plan to replace the fule pump in the tank ,but sounds like its fine ! After that it's going to b fule injectors and rail ... I mite have to try the crank chart sensor too ! BLOODY cars !

My 2000 golf GTI loss power while I was driving it felt like the car went into limp mode just before it lost total power. The Green Flag tech said it was the alternator that was knackered. I changed it then the mechanic told me my battery had to be changed because it was drained due to the faulty alternator previous. I've now changed the battery and the alternator but it will not stay on. Had a jump start but it keeps cutting out and wont start up again. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

I had a VW rabbit that developed mad electrical problems. It started when one day the headlights remained on and would not shut off. It turned out that a $2.00 gasket for the antenna wire had failed. This allowed road water from the wheel well to leak onto the fuse box. In time the fuse panel corroded and shorted out. I had to replace the fuse box twice and use rubber epoxy to seal the leak.
Check all fuses and electrical wiring for signs of shorts or corrosion.

it might be the e break sensor . ive heard of them causing shut downs . also check all fluid levels if your coolant is too low the sensor will shut it down lol. and i think theres a break light recall that might have something to do with it . take it in to vw if you have the means for a scan . of find someone in your area with a vag com . it can read the error codes from the computer . good luck

Loosing clutch when drive fast threw the gears


do you lose any fluid? there is know adjustment in hydraulic . did you get a bad remanufactured part ?

You need to get your key reprogrammed at your dealer... Did u drop the key as this can sometimes cause the key to loose the code, i dont know hoe all i no is i had to get it done a few times.

No heat or AC in MK4 Golf GTi


The only common faulf is that the heater motor resistor has burnt out or corroded due to a water ingress . The ac take a control feed from the first position resistor when the fan position 1 is selected . Regards VW Audi Tech

everywhere i look loads of gti's are cuttin out. mine did.it would cut out for no reason and the dashboard lights would come on. changed dizzy n no joy so i found out that if i replaced my relay fuse(number 31 on ure fuses) it stopped cutting out. i got my part from vw dealer and costs £13! its never ever cut out since and that was at least 6 months ago. hope this helps.

ive bought a cat back scorpion exhaust for my mk4 2.0 golf gti the problem is its banging off the bottom off the car witch is doing my nut in i bought a 4motion rear valance for the cut out for the tail pipe witch was a waist of time as the exhaust is no where near the cut out as it will not go any higher because its already hitting the body does any one else have this problem your advice on this would be helpfull thanks
