If the timing belt has broken, this might cause the problem,is the rotor button turning?if it is,then the timing belt has not broken.Look at the computer to be the problem here if the timing belt is not at fault.

You have 2 fuses under the hood. One is a 7.5 amp and the other is a 15 amp. double check these fuses first and then let me know.

Sorry, these are labeled EFI fuse and the other is Ignition.

Well either the fuses have been checked and they are good or you need to check them. If they are good, the ECU may be in trouble. If you have a back ground with automotive, let me see if I can find some diagrams. Let me know what you find.

  • bldrjoe May 11, 2010

I thought the problem could be ecu but that is very unusual for toyota if you could send me diagram to check ecu I would appreciate it.

You need to check the crank shaft position sensor and the cam shaft position sensor. I would try the cam shaft position sensor first. Do you have a full 12 volt test at the new distributor? Good Luck let me know how you do. Darrell S

Have you tried to check out the cam shaft position sensor and the crank shaft position sensor? As you know with your experience you have to go thru the process of elimination of problem sensors etc.
Best I can advise with the information we have presently. I wish you luck with this it can be frustrating. Darrell S

Hi! Its good that you replaced the distributor and igniter. May i just ask if you checked the rotors of the distributor? You may need to replace this to fire it up. I suggest that you replace the injectors too for it may be faulty giving you just 1 pulse is not normal. Once replace I believe that you'll be good to run. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Have you set the timing on the distributor? You may need to move it forward or backward to get the perfect timing. By then you may get a good firing.

1994. GMC Sierra 1500. Why does it crank but won't start?

It appears you have a 5.0 or a 5.7 TBI motor. If you have no spark and/or no fuel injector pulse - the most common problem was the ignition module and the pickup on the distributor. Most aftermarket dists come completely rebuilt or new with module and pickup already installed. you need to line up and mark where the dist lines up with before removing. If you haven't ever pulled a distributor out before I would recommend getting someone that has do it instead. You can easily get it out of time and it will still not start after you are done.

1997 5.7ltr gm truck...wont start. Replaced fuel pump, and relay. Has a carbon build up in the throttle body. Turns over/wont start

check for spark if there is no fuel coming out of injectors you can borrow noid lights from orielies auto parts check the injectors for pulse width if you have no pulse your computer is bad if vyou have no spark remove dist ributer cap and see if rotor turns while cranking if it does check for spark between coil and dist if no spark you more then likely have a bad ignition module

Lost inj. pulse need to know where the ecm gets crank position from. if from dist.how does it locate #1 1985 crovette

Lost injector pulse. First injector power is supplied by (IGN+) or fues block ,The injector are multi-potr not individual they are fired together, not individually, Now if you lost injection pulse youll need to inspect the Distributor, the pick up is highly suspectable to terminal corrosion, it corrodes easily,so be ready to replace the pick up with a module, (this is spark I know we are on Injector), Do you have spark, then leave this alone, Test injector pulse not at the injector because again its bank fire or group fired You ll need to test thes the connector harness connector,of the injectors. As long as there is spark you should have injector pulse from the injector sub harness connector make your way to the ECM , The ECM controls the energizing of the injector with a transitor or quad driver, they are synchronized to primary ignition . Here a solution if no spark correct for spark. Its either a Distributor pick up failure with ICM module.Do this only is you have no spark. If you have spark and no Injector ,replace ECM

The injectors on the throtle body are not kicking on its got gas running to the carb need help trying to figure out what all powers the injectors

on that engine if theres no spark at the pluggs there will be no flash on the injectors the spark problem would be on the primary side be looking at the pickup coil inside the distrubtor and the ignition module also inside the dist. there are fuses in the fuse box for ecm and injector fuse if you turn on key use a 12 volt test light check for power at one of the injectors or both also you can hook up to battery pos. to test for flashing pulse while cranking also check all fuses for power while key on in the fuse boxes also look for broken wires in dist. hope this helps Thunderboltz

ECU of my Hyundai Scoupe 1994 2 doors cannot trigger the sequence of the fuel injectors to supply gas or petrol into the combustion chambers but spark is available to the spark plugs! can you help me solve...

The ECU requires timing pulses from the crankshaft and camshaft sensors in order to generate the injector pulses. All other sensors just modify the pulse width of the injectors to adjust for power and economy. If the ignition is entirely controlled from a distributor, the two above sensors would not affect the spark. Hope this helps!

No gas coming out the injector and there is gas pressure to the injector?

Is there an injector pulse going to the injector?(an electrical pulse to fire the injector).
Is there spark at the plugs?
If the pickup in the dist is faulty you won't have either one.
If your vehicle uses a crank pickup with or instead of dist pick up....if it is defective ....no pulse.
The above is 90% cause of no pulse....other is computer problem 10%.
If you do have a injector pulse and no spray.....and have fuel pressure....change the injector.
A quick check for spark is spray a little starting fluid in it.....if it starts on the fluid....spark is present.

1990 gmc 6500 topkick with no spark or injector pulse. all 4 wires on the ignition coil have battery voltage with key on. is coil shorted or is the ignition module bad?

You are jumping to conclusions. Slow down.
No spark AND no injector pulse indicates none of the desired outputs were triggered. The ignition module makes spark when it receives a crankshaft position sensor signal, and then transfers control of that spark to the computer after it starts. The module takes its crank sensor signal and generates an RPM count that it forwards to the PCM(main computer) which is used for triggering the injectors and controlling timing. SO, if you had a bad crank sensor OR a bad ignition module, you could lose both spark AND fuel. a coil would not disable injector pulse. modules RARELY fail in a manner that disables RPM reference to the computer causing it to not fire the injectors...At this point, I would TEST the crank sensor as the next step. If its easier, 1 of the wires on the module goes directly there so you can test the crank sensor at the module.

1990 K5 Blazer DIED(Electrical?)?

There may be no injector pulse if the computor does not see a RPM signal.
There will be no spark if the ignition module does not see a dist pulse from the dist pickup.......a RPM signal.
Because you do not have both ......I would suggest to check/change the dist pick up.
Follow the wires from the ignition module inside the dist to the pickup which is also inside the dist.
If it is just a bad dist pickup....keep all your old parts as good spares.
Also...is the dist turning? to provide a RPM signal?
You will have to remove the dist to change the pick-up.....mark your timing locations......"rotor position" and "dist body location"before removal.
A quick test before installing the "repaired dist" .....plug it in the the truck wiring and turn on the key....DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DIST ROTOR CORRECT POSITION......as you spin the dist by hand .....the injectors should spray.
